I was using my nitro 5 completely fine browsing the internet when suddenly the computer completely froze for a few seconds. After this, it restarted itself to a black screen and proceeded to turn on and off until being on with just a black screen. Now every time I try to turn it back on it always repeats this turn on turn off turn on and staying at a black screen.

Any help with this

To give you a detailed answer as there could be many things wrong with your laptop but and first, it would help very much, if you told us which exact Nitro 5 model laptop you have😁 as saying a Nitro 5 is a basic and an unspecific question, as there are many different Nitro 5 laptop models. Anyway, the first thing you should do is to completely reset the laptop.

Turn your Nitro 5 laptop off completely, open the back cover and disconnect and take the main battery out first (after that, press the keyboard power button for 10sec to discharge all the power out of the laptops circuitries') then disconnect the bios battery from the mobo plug (see the caption below) and then and straight after disconnecting the bios battery plug, have a paper clip to short the +&- pins out, this resets in the CMOS of the laptop to be reset also, then take the ram out and leave the laptop like that for 15min with all parts and battery disconnected.

All the above, resets the Super IO and the bios chips of the laptop, after 15min reconnect all components, as that will reset the laptop and it will make it work and reboot 100%. Btw, I've got a Nitro 5 laptop also, and this happened to me, and this is how I fixed the black screen, as after doing this all the above (12 months ago) my Nitro 5 laptops has worked perfectly even since.

Also make sure that your laptop has the latest bios version installed, latest windows updates, NVidia gpu drivers (make sure you uninstall all previous old NVidia drivers) before installing the latest NVidia driver, and make sure that all Intel drivers are also up to date, as doing all the above will make your Nitro 5 work perfectly.

    RTC/BIOS battery disconnection

Note: If the above doesn't work and you are still getting a black screen then it could be a screen issue or an eDP cable plug fault at the screen or mobo, before doing anything (disconnecting the screen plugs from the mobo or screen) make sure that the main battery is disconnected, as if you don't the screen or gpu can be damaged. If the screen is not the issue, then you need to take your Nitro 5 laptop to either Acer Support or an experienced technician in your area, as your laptop could have a main power circuitry problem issue, or the worst thing that could have happened, is that it could be a burnt out mosat or vcore chips that have allowed the gpu to be burned out, which is unfixable, as you will need to replace your laptops motherboard. Good luck and hope you sort your problem out!

Could be a bad GPU driver or overheating issue. Wait a while till the laptop is cooled off and try to boot again. If it happens again you need to boot in Safe Mode if you can (after the Acer logo press Alt+F10) and turn off the GPU drivers and services, reboot and see if that helps. If you cannot boot at all you need to boot in Safe Mode using the Windows USB Recovery flash drive (borrow one from a user that has the same Windows version).
