Acer Swift 3 SF314-43, left side of the laptop gets too hot while charging

This is the Ryzen 5500u, 16GB variant. It gets too hot while charging with the 65W charger. Also seems to charge way too fast like from 40 - 70 percent in 15mins. Perhaps opting for a slower charger might alleviate the heating issue.

Is it safe to use a 45W charger instead?

You can use a lower wattage charger, but it will take longer to charge.
