Looking to upgrade my aspire 3 a315-51-35fr RAM from 4 gb to 12gb

Hi!

I'm looking to upgrade my laptop (this will be my first attempt ever on my own) it's an aspire 3 a315-51-35fr - core i3, 512gb hdd.

I've been doing a lot of research and believe the '8GB PC4-17000 DDR4-2133MHz Non-ECC Unbuffered Sodimm' is the ram I want, I believe it has one soldered ram, and the other I can add up to 8gb (which will be the port I add this ram card too) - giving my laptop a total of 12gb…I'm hoping this won't make me have to update the hdd because as said before I don't have a lot of technical experience but looking to learn if I have too!

Is there anyone else who can confirm this is the correct ram? Or has done this to this model? And if I do bring it to the 12gb ram will it need a hdd upgrade or can I get away with leaving it at 512gb? I can't find a lot of forums where owners hav updated the same model as mine…anything helps!
Thanks so so much!

Hello! I advise downloading the cpu-z program. Then send some screenshots of the spd and memory tabs. This is the information in the service guide:

About ssd, does your computer support optane memory and will also support a m2 2280 nvme or sata 3 ssd:

If the 4GB DDR onboard is soldered on the MOBO, IMO the SPD tab in CPU-Z will be empty (CPU-Z only monitors slots).

Run WMIC instead (see below) that will, give you all the info about the soldered DDR4 and then buy exactly the same (brand, everthing) but 8GB module, this should still give you the max. clockspeed of 1600 Mhz. Consider buying 4GB DDR4, total 8 GB which I have in Windows11, 22H2 and 10th gen i7, DDR4 RAM never gets above 4.5 GB.

    Elevated command:
wmic MemoryChip get Banklabel, Capacity, Configuredclockspeed, Devicelocator, FormFactor, Manufacturer, Serialnumber, Speed

Hi there! It sounds like you've done your research and have a good understanding of the RAM upgrade you want to perform on your laptop. The 8GB PC4-17000 DDR4-2133MHz Non-ECC Unbuffered Sodimm should be compatible with your laptop, and adding it to the available slot should give you a total of 12GB of RAM.

Regarding the hard drive, upgrading it to a larger capacity or a faster solid-state drive (SSD) would likely result in improved performance, but it's not necessary if you don't need the extra storage space or faster read/write speeds.

It's always a good idea to consult the laptop's manual or manufacturer's website to confirm compatibility before performing any upgrades, but as long as you follow proper installation procedures, upgrading RAM is usually a straightforward process. Good luck with your upgrade!

    Hi there!

Upgrading the RAM on your laptop can definitely improve its performance. The '8GB PC4-17000 DDR4-2133MHz Non-ECC Unbuffered Sodimm' RAM you mentioned is compatible with your laptop according to the specifications of the Acer Aspire 3 A315-51-35FR.

As for the hard drive, upgrading to 12GB RAM should not affect it. However, if you're looking to improve your laptop's performance even more, upgrading to a solid-state drive (SSD) can make a big difference in terms of speed and responsiveness.

I suggest doing some more research on SSDs and their compatibility with your laptop model. If you're not comfortable with the process of installing one yourself, you can always take it to a professional or a local computer shop to have it done for you.

Good luck with your upgrade, and don't hesitate to reach out if you have any more questions! Rummy Modern
