Acer Chromebook 933-C7GM We are having issues with the left hinge

We are having issues with the left hinge on these Chromebooks.  It is quite stiff and is pulling the screw anchors out of the plastic bosses on the case.  Our school purchased over 200 of these this summer and I currently have 4 of these on the bench with the same issue.  In looking elsewhere on the forums I see that other models have had similar hinge issues.

I have filed a support ticket with Acer on this, but wanted to know if this problem is as widespread as I suspect it is (it seems clearly to be a design issue), and if so is Acer addressing it at all with service advisories/recalls/repairs?  The thought of having to cycle 200 units through warranty service is not comforting, but such is life.

There isn't any sort of a recall that I'm aware of. I believe the root cause is due to the screw/nut combo that sets hinge tension tightening slightly when the unit is opened or closed. Loosening them and putting a bit of Loctite on the threads seems to remove the issue though...

Very sorry to see and hear these, have you got any follow up back or response from the support team? Please send me the case ID number provided by support for these claims via private message.

    Thanks in advance,

hromebook in July of 21 and 15 months later my left hinge pulled out. Wrote a letter to acer and received NO response! I have to leave it in tablet form (flipped back) so now the keyboard is virtually useless.

You can take it apart and repair the hinge screw mounts using epoxy as several other people here have done over the last few years. Having those screws pull loose is not terribly uncommon for the thin and light laptop designs. You can mitigate it by being careful to open the screen from the center, and slowly, but once they have pulled loose it's either replace the case half or repair the screw mounts.
