Where can I find the motherboard for an Aspire 1 A114 Model N20Q1

After an update and my son accidentally pulled the plug it made a sounding alarm and now it won't boot up. *** Black screen

    Getting a mother board is only a last option and that too if it is a hardware issue.


    It looks like a software issue since the problem happened after update.


    I am really sorry for the inconvenience..  Let us do the basic steps first..


    Doing the power drain and bios defaults will really help. Kindly follow the steps given below:


    Turn off the laptop. Disconnect or unplug the charger cable, devices or any other cables connected to your laptop. Close your laptop. Turn it upside down. On the bottom of the laptop, you can find a pin hole. It is a tiny hole. You can a find a battery symbol indicator next to the hole. It is like a + and – sign symbol as though somebody is trying to shift the battery out. Insert the pin on to the hole for 30 seconds. Remove the pin. Flip the laptop. Connect the charger cable, turn on the computer. Only on laptops where the battery is inbuilt you can find the battery reset hole on the back of laptop.


    If you don’t find a pin hole on the back of laptop then you might be using removable battery. There is no need to unscrew anything to remove the battery. Turn off the laptop. Disconnect or unplug the charger cable, devices and any other cables connected to your laptop. Close your laptop. Turn it upside down. On the bottom of the laptop, please look at the top or bottom depending on the way you look at it. You can find a long door. It is a battery removable door. Just below that you can find a latch. If you move the latch you can remove the battery door. Once the battery is removed, flip the laptop. Open the top cover, press and hold the power button for 1 minute. Connect the battery back on the back of computer. Connect the charger cable back and then turn on the computer. 

     

    If you don’t see a reset pin hole on the back of laptop or if you are not able to remove the battery (if it is inbuilt) then please unplug all the cables and devices out of laptop.  Hold the power button for 1 minute. After releasing the button you should wait a while before plugging in power. Just because the button has been pressed doesn’t bleed off all the residual electricity on the motherboard. Wait 15-30 minutes before plugging in power. Then once power is connected wait for a full battery indication before turning the system on. That allows the battery to fully reset it’s internal statistics.


    Connect all the cables back and restart the computer.  



    While turning on the computer, tap f2. It will go to bios. Press f9 once. It will show load bios defaults with a yes or no popup. Press enter. Popup screen will disappear. Press f10 once. It will show save changes popup with yes or no. Press enter. Computer will restart and it will load into windows.  

     

    It might also be the issue with battery, charger or power outlet.  Try to use the charger in a different room on a different power outlet. Try to bypass the surge protector and connect it directly to power outlet.  Try to use an alternative charger if possible.  Try to turn on the computer without the charger and check it ( as long as the battery is not drained out )  


    Try windows x 

    go to device manager 

    expand Battery

    right click on all the items below battery – uninstall 

    Restart the computer

    Unfortunately the N20Q1 model number doesn't actually tell us which A114 you have. It seems they recycle those numbers after a while. The actual model number is on the same sticker as your serial number and should look something like A114-xxx-xxxx. Motherboard are different between different models which is why we need to pin yours down farther. Typically pulling the power should make no difference, your issue could be any of a number of things and typically the motherboard is going to be nearly least likely.

    Do you get anything at all when trying to turn it on? Fan noise, beeps? When the power is plugged in do you get any lights?

    Thank you William _mk2 I followed every step you gave me but I was only able to get until where I press f2 nothing comes up on my screen it's completely black.

    Billsey, the laptop does turn on the power and battery lights come on I can hear the fan turns on and off but as I mentioned the screen is completely black. I remember reading somewhere it had to do with the graphics card drivers? I really don't know what else to do as I soon wiil be WFH and will definitely need it. Any other suggestions?

    Can you tell if before the problem appears, if windows update tried to perform a bios update? Did an image similar to this appear?

    Needless to say, your splash screen won't be a Lenovo. :) Driver issues are only for problems once the OS starts to load, there aren't any for the splash screen display or the BIOS. If you have nothing showing on the screen during the normal POST period, when the Acer logo is supposed to be displayed, then the problem is most likely hardware, though it could be a non-function corrupted BIOS. There are really only three pieces to the display hardware, the display itself, the motherboard and the cable running between them. Almost always when there's a problem there it's the cable and appears gradually. Pulling the plug on a laptop during an update really is pretty low risk, the worse you would normally see is a corrupted drive, and that presents with errors when loading the OS. If it was doing a BIOS update, and the battery is bad on the laptop so it won't run at all on battery, and you timed things just wrong you could get a bricked BIOS. Unfortunately the fix for that is usually to send it into a service center where they can reflash the chip.

    Hi guys, I had given up on my laptop issue until recently I put it back together and reboot it and it started almost as normal. I got the windows repair window and when it ended it promted me to reset and all them other options. I tried to reinstall windows but now every time it restarts no screen again!! Its back to black… I unplug all the wires from it and USB leave it for a bit and also I push in the CMOS button for 30 sec leave it sitting there and reboot it. It takes a bit longer but it again comes up with Win Repair… Any suggestions?

    Does it go black only after the OS starts to load? That points to problems with the OS itself, or the profile you use. Your Aspire A114-33 has an eMMC drive soldered to the motherboard, and eMMC drives don't last as long as other SSD designs. There is a pretty good chance the drive has failed or is failing. If you open it up and look in this corner, do you see the SSD connector or is it not installed on your MB? The M.2 SSD connector has the red box around it in this image:

    @billsey when it does start up it goes right into win repair. Whatever option I may choose after that if it involves restarting it will but then there will be a black screen. The lights come on and all but no screen. As for the connector you mention its there but its always been empty.

    Try booting on a Windows install flash drive. You may have to enable the F12 Boot Menu in the BIOS first. From the install environment use the Repair option and then navigate to the command prompt so you can use diskpart to look at the eMMC drive. I expect there are problems with it. The fix is likely to be to install a new SSD in that M.2 slot, then install Windows to the new SSD and change the boot to use it instead of the eMMC. Once you are booting on the new SSD you can remove the drive letters form any partitions on the eMMC and it won't be used any longer.

    @billsey I've tried to do so but I now can't seem to get passed the Recovery window and any option that I choose it either loops back to the same window or it reboots and then am back to square one 'black screen' **See attached picture.

    It sounds like you aren't pressing the key to enter the BIOS quickly enough. You can't get to that screen until the OS starts to load, which is after POST has been completed. With the A114-33 models you enter the BIOS by pressing F2 during POST, though you may have to use Fn-F2 if your keyboard defaults to media keys.
