I added a 3090 to my PredatorOrion3000/The small case with the single front fan.Need PSU adapter.

I know the psu is anemic at 500 watts, but I shoehorned a 3090 in there and it runs at stock clocks with zero freezes or crashes, needless to say having 24gb vram lets me max any game at 4k it's pretty sweet.I need to do a psu swap very soon though(for now I've underclocked the card and shaved off over 100watts)I already have an evga gold 850 fully modular but I can't seem to find out where to get the needed adapter to proceed. This evga psu is actually a wee bit smaller than the one in there right now, only very slightly, but anything smaller is good.

what adapter do you need ? is the 3090 2x8 pin like the 3080?

An adapter for the psu I was talking about to attach to the motherboard to run the 3090 easier, the little 500watt that's in it right now is admirable but it won't last forever.I THINK MAYBE CORSAIR HAVE MADE ONE AND INCLUDE IT WITH NEW PSU'S OR MAYBE SOMEONE KNOWS WHAT WILL WORK?

Well since I already own a gold 850,I'll be going with that, not to mention that the 3090 is running fine at boost clock speeds already with the included ‘500watt’ PSU I have even added 2 fans to the mix as well as another nvme(so 2 now) and 2 sata externals.I ordered the Corsair cable and will do the swap when I get my first system shutdown caused by a failing psu. They always do the same thing…..click….system shutoff. This little thing is a beast now with the 3090,I can max out my sim games easily at 4k.I was thinking about putting a 12700 in it,but I think I can hold off for now,the 12100 is amazing fast for a quad-core at least for gaming.

Small update on my Orion3000/3090 I was just playing my main game WRCGenerations @4k full settings 60fps vsynced.I decided to try something and used msi afterburner and reduced clock speeds by 502 and memory by 502 both max reduction.I then set the gpu voltage to .800 by using the custon curve option, and locked it at 1500mhz X .800volts.The game runs at a solid 60fps and temps are crazy low at 42c after 30 mins of rallying.Underclocking for the win!

thats awesome and thx for the info post some pics when u r done so we can see your progress, and is undervolting better for the card or will it damage it like overclocking does ? i havent done anything yet i leave mine as it lol

Update for Chugzilla.I now have my 3090 running @ .775volts with a solid clockspeed of 1650mhz and it topped out after 30mins of WRCGenerations at 44c Yes this is totally safe my friend, electricity and heat are the killers of electronics(google heat migration) So lowering both will logically extend the lifespan of all electronics.I know you are alway trying to improve your cooling…..why not give undervolting a shot,it really works. You can do it with CPU's and GPU's and with undervolting there is zero risk of frying anything with too much voltage, the worst thing that wiill happen is you freeze up,simply reboot and add a tiny bit more voltage and you are good to go.You WILL SEE A HUGE TEMP DROP Chugzilla…..Peace,Quick

yes and ty ill check it out now what about the cpu ? mines a 12700f can that be done or no ?

The cpu has to be done in the bios.Same thing though, but in your bios lower your cpu voltage if theres an option(my bios doesnt allow)one small increment at a time until you find your pc freezes when playing a game or doing something stressful like editing a video etc etc. Then up the voltage one small increment.,….done.With my other machine that has an asus mobo in it and is full o/clocked I just did the same procedure by lowering the voltage until it becomes unstable, then bump it up slightly.Sadly though sany intel cpu that doesnt have a k after the name cannot be adjusted…….like a 12700k can be overclocked but a 12700f can't.Do your video card and the heat from the card will be gone at the very least,I'm thinking it's gonna help a degree or 2 on your cpu as well……Peace,Quick

yeah, your right no access in bios lol, locked down on almost anything-everything, so ill try the msi program, i have it but never opened it lol, and im only on 1080P so my 3070 has never gone over 54 that was the highest i ever saw it and that was on a benchmark test and 53 running Days Gone on max settings, and ever since installing the Noctua NH-U12A my CPU never goes over 48 ever, i did experiment adding extra-more fans in the case it didnt help at all, so not much more i can do for cooling unless i try a water cooler, but one thing is i put 2 acer frostblade fans on the tower cooler and it also dropped the temps down 3-5 C over the lower rpm ones supplied with the cooler, so i put them on the top rack for exhaust, another thing i noticed since maxing out my ddr5 memory at 4x16 @ 64 gigs is that the temps went up slightly when gaming, i used to get 40-44 on cpu and gpu was 41-48 now they are few degrees warmer by adding more memory, and im told thats normal when maxing out the system memory from acer level 2 agent and micron techs, so who knows lol.

Yeah man,if you are running video in the 50's even 60's I wouldn't worry at all about temps, when you start talking about 70's it's time to take action. When I got my 3090 crammed into the small opening I was worried that the card would be 70's 80's all the time so I immediatly undervolted it and will just leave it that way until my next system build where it will live in a proper case with breathing room to spare.Learning to use msi afterburner is a good idea though….it's a tool in every gamers toolbox you need to know it.Since you have good temps already theres no immediate rush, just fiddle around with it a bit until you understand what it's capable of…..you will find free performance… Peace,Quick

well, on nvidias web page, they say normal operating temps are between 65-85 C for all there cards, so im way under lol, tc bud and keep us posted on any and all upgrades ya do its always nice to see what other ppl have and are adding to there current setup.

That Corsair PSU adapter assumes the 12VO motherboard has a ten pin connector, not the 6 pin + 4 pin that Acer uses. So it won't wiork without rebuilding it or adding yet another adapter.
