Hello all,

I have Acer Travelmate P2 TMP259-M-356E laptop (i3-6006U, 4GB RAM) with SSD SATA 2.5" 120GB. I want to add another SSD.

Can I add another larger 2.5" SATA SSD/HDD? Is there free place for second SSD instead of CD/DVD drive because I don't have CD/DVD drive on this laptop ( for example to install SSD in SSD Caddy Adapter)?

If there isn't any way to install second SSD 2.5" SATA drive can I eventually install M.2 SSD? Is there any M.2 slot on this laptop?

Your laptop only has 1x M.2 SSD slot and you can’t add another M.2 drive, it has a 1x 2.5” SATA drive slot and the 1x M.2 slot can accommodate a PCIe 3 x4 type drive, the existing M.2 drive is a Hynix M.2 SSD or similar type drive that is a mid-range speed type M.2 drive, you can upgrade this M.2 SSD drive to 1TB, 2TB up to 8TB which is the limit of M.2 drives today as the format of your bios UEFI and the OS is GUID (GPT) that has a limit of up to 8 petabytes theoretically will work with any capacity M.2 SSD PCIe 3 x4 drive on the market today .

Update and clone the OS with a larger M.2 SSD of whatever drive your budget is suited to, imo the top and up there best PCIe3 x4 M.2 drives are either the Samsung 970 EVO Plus or the newest WD SN770 Black or the older WD SN750 Black which come in capacities of up to 2TB. You can also upgrade this laptop to a max memory: 32GB into its 2x slots at 2x 16GB DDR4-2400 • CL=17 • NON-ECC • SODIMM • 260-pin • 1.2V • 2Rx8 • PC4-19200 for best ram performance.

OK. Thanks for your detailed answers. I didn't open laptop yet, so wasn't sure if it has M.2 or 2.5" SATA SSD. I have spare 1TB 2.5" SATA HDD and if this current genuine 120GB SSD in laptop is M.2 than I would just install spare 2.5" HDD. I know HDD is much more slower than any SSD but I would use HDD just for data and genuine M.2 SSD for OS. Are you sure this genuine 120GB drive is M.2?

Hi @S1ngler I leave you extra information to what was commented by @StevenGen. these are screenshots from the service manual for the P259-M series that you must confirm once the equipment is opened, regards.

@StevenGen and @Alejandro_AC you were both right. My laptop has 128 GB Kingston M.2 SSD and one empty 2.5" slot. As I already said I have spare 1TB Seagate ST1000LM035 2.5" 7mm HDD. Do I need and what kind of adapter to install this HDD in 2.5" SATA bay?

Acer part number 42.GDEN7.SV1 is the HDD kit.

Is this 42.gden7.sv1 hdd bracket the only one that suits? Could I use another not genuine cheaper hdd bracket?

Meanwhile I've found this 42.GDEN7.002 hard drive bracket is actually for Travelmate P259-m series, but this one 42.gden7.sv1 looks the same and I assume it will fit also.

One more thing, what is the recommended OS for this laptop with i3-6006u and 8GB DDR4 RAM. It came with free Linux OS but I want to install Windows. Should I go for Windows 10 Pro or Windows 11 Pro?

Windows 10, 64bit. It's not compatible with Windows 11. You need at least two generations newer for W11 compatibility.

The service manual is not available for download and I don't know if it can be found on the internet. I'm sorry I can't help you.
    Greetings.
