Hi,

My nitro 5 model number N20C2 has just randomly shut down and won't restart, the blue charging light is showing and the system light is showing blue but can not get it working, no fans going at all either, I've tried holding the blue system light until it turns off but pressing again the blue light comes on but no attempt to start, there is no battery reset button on the back and battery isn't removable.

Any suggestions would be of great help.

Mark.

  • Hi,

Disconnect from mains, press Power button for 12 Seconds, leave the laptop to rest for 15-20 Minutes, reconnect AC adapter and fully charge the laptop, check whether it helps, could you please post the model name, like AN51x-xx.

What happens if you hold fn and esc then press the power button? The fans should spin up to maximum speed. I have had this issue before, and for me its always been related to overheating. What I would try is to take the back cover off and disconnect the main battery (don't remove) for a few minutes, then reconnect it, as there is no battery reset button. You could also try disconnecting the CMOS battery wire (the battery itself is under the main battery, for some reason, at least on 2019 model), but when I did that, it just bricked the BIOS and I had to reflash it.

Note: the info about the laptop is from my laptop (an515-54), and looking at the model names, you have the 17" version of my laptop.

    hi,

Just tried holding FN and esc as I powered up and nothing happens at all, can't see it being overheating as I'd litterally not long turned it on, maybe a min.

It's doing absolutely nothing other then the power and system lights switching on so can't even attempt to access the bios.

  • As soon as you press the power button, press F2 button and enter BIOS, if you can enter BIOS screen, move to Main tab and press F9 button then press F10 to save & exit, see whether it boots to Windows.

Just tried and again nothing, when I press the power button nothing happens at all like fans starting screen flicker, all that happens is the blue light comes on and no way to enter the bios, starting to think it's a hardware failure 😔

    Again thanks

If nothing happens, then your keyboard is broken (unlikely, given you said it just shut down) or there is something wrong with the components themselves. If it is under warrenty, send it to Acer. If its not under warrenty and you want to try other things before sending it in for repair, I would take the back panel off and take out one of the sticks of ram (note: keep yourself grounded, ideally using ESD band) and see if it boots. If it does not boot, try the other stick of ram. If it boots, your ram is bad. I don't see how broken ram could cause it, and generally if your ram fails your computer crashes, not shuts down, and also I would think even if the ram was broken, the computer could still POST, it would just fail its ram test, but some laptops can be weird with ram. Another possibility might be a bad M.2 device. Generally, the failure must be big, such as in a way that shorts some power pins, causing the power supply to not supply power. I would try removing all M.2 devices (SSDs, wifi/bt card, ideally with PH0 screwdriver), then try booting again. If it still fails to boot, the things left to figure out would be: power, CPU, or motherboard.
