edited February 2023 in Chromebooks

Basically im not good with all this modern jargon etc, ive moved home and so had to get re-done by talktalk (hours on the phone not understanding eachother etc) anyway, ive now got utube on my tv, but my chromebook, when i go to use it/establish it in my new flat etc im asked something to do with ssid, then under security a choice of Wep, psk or eap. I havent the faintest idea what this means which is a bit concerning. Am I, as I believe, able to just continue using my chromebook without selecting any of these? and if not, why is there no warning etc so people can be prepared for this already? Id heard chromebooks are very safe etc, so presume they would have told me if id need to use one of these, though Ive never heard of them. My chromebook is only used in my property so I doubt it should be able to be hacked for bank details etc? any advise would be good, many thanks.

Ah, ive just spoke to someone in the library and they reckon that those letters will be irrelevant to me. All I have is my chromebook ( and utube on tv) and didnt need to select any of those letters when setting up in my previous address. Its no wonder that many older people have no desire to get online when things are made extremely over complicated for them. The process needs to be much more simple, and only complex for users as and when they are choosing to go down a more complex/advanced area. Like mobile phones for dummies, it should be simpler, not having to be on a phone for hours to someone in india or somewhere and you dont even understand eachother or get anywhere.

It's asking you to connect to the WiFi in your appt. Your landlord should have egiven you that info if WiFi is included with your housing, if it's not you have to get WiFi from an internet service company.
