I'm guessing this is one of those situations where you already know the answer to your own question yet you're desperately hoping you're wrong :)

I found myself hoping I could drop a 32 GB stick of ram into my laptop and enjoy the benefits…

Said laptop in question is the “Acer Laptop Aspire 5 AMD Ryzen 7 5000 Series 5700U ” model number A515-45-R1BF .. a wise person on this forum said to use the crucial system scanner downloadable tool type thing and it said that it supports a maximum of 20 GB of ram .. which is interesting because the newegg description says it supports up to 24 GB of ram (still less than I would have hoped), see

and click on the “specs” tab

Although 24 GB would be better than 20 GB if crucial system scanner is telling the truth (hopefully it's not?)

I guess if I have to I'll grab the 16 GB crucial stick that crucial is suggesting although even there I have my doubts.. I'm doubtful because the crucial system scannner is stating that I should install a crucial stick of ram with a speed of 2400 speed .. honestly I'd prefer to plug the cheaper 3200 speed 16 GB ram stick amazon is sellling in there and just hope that the acer works with it and just downgrades itself to the lower speed (sold and shipped by amazon directly so much better return policy too)

In case anyone's wondering why this maniac wants 32 GB of ram on his laptop :) .. well it's actually for my daughter who has a LOT of stuff open and running all at once on her laptop

Anyone have any thoughts? is the 16 GB stick of ram really the way to go, no chance of the laptop recognizing a 32 GB stick of ram?
