Travelmate B118 not turning on

Purchased a Travelmate B118 last August.  Several times the unit would not come out of sleep mode and we would press and hold power to fully shut down and then start again
Now we are unable to start the unit.  The light on the cover blinks green, but the screen does not come alive.

Have tried the battery reset procedure, charging the unit and tested different chargers.  Nothing so far.

Any suggestions?

    Hi @Gudlite

    You just have to disconnect the laptop from the charger. Laptop has to be turned off completely. Turn your laptop upside down. At the back side of the laptop you will be able to find a very tiny hole which happens to have a battery symbol near to it. You just have to get a safety pin of a paper clip to just press and hold into that hole for 30 to 40 secs. But not too hard.

    After that you can try to connect the laptop back to the charger and try to turn on the laptop to see if it does make any difference.

    Thank you for the response.  I have tried that several times, and Acer support had me do that as well.  Right after, he said I had to send it back to be repaired. :(

    Yeah, the battery is acting confused and they want to determine if it's the battery or motherboard that's at fault. Not an easy diagnosis over the phone.

    Hi @Gudlite, did you ever get this issue resolved? What was the resolution given from Acer? Were you using Windows 11 at the time? Being a large school, we have found this issue since we moved to Windows 11 this term.

    I had to send it in. They replaced the main board (I think) and it worked for a few months and then the same

    I faced similar situation recently. I have Lenovo Legion Y530. And, my laptop's motherboard's power module got short-circuited, as I used it for very long time and continuously kept it in charging for around like 5-6 days without turning off. I feel the same thing happened with you.

    Hi @Gudlite

    Did you try to start your laptop without a battery, just with the power adapter connected? To test that you have to open your laptop and disconnect the battery cable from the motherboard, then put the back cover without the screws back, plug in the power adapter and press the power button. If that works you have a bad battery, Note if you are on the “Fast Startup” power plan, disable that first to completely shut down the system, otherwise there will be some charge on the components even when the laptop is turned off.

    @Puraw Gudlite had his mainboard replaced by Acer, but I have about 40 Acer B118 and some are experiencing similar issues to Gudlite's original post.

    Thanks for the suggestions, I have already tried swapping out all the components from the non-working to working notebook and it appears to be a mainboard fault.

    @leonaip already done, we have 40 of these things and about 4-5 seem to be starting to fail after only a year of use.

    It won't hurt to try to power up with the adapter only, in my case (3 year old a515-54G) it was a new battery (wrong capacity). Are you saying that all ACER B118 MOBOs and DELL's and HP's (that report identical power failures on their forums) are all faulty? That is a lot of laptops worlwide, I don't think so.😉

    use the same model battery, do not use compatible ones unlike chargers…
