Trouble instaling Windows 7/8 on travelmate 8473T

Hello all,

I have a TM 8473T which I'm trying to install Windows 7 or Windows 8. I have the latest BIOS version of 1.23. I previously had Windows 7 installed but wanted to do some VMware training and installed esx OS. I wanted to re-install windows again but when I get to the section on creating partitions, I see on the screen the hard drive isn't supported for boot. The BIOS isn't any help because it doesn't give me advanced options to see if the HDD is set to boot. Has anyone come across this? I've tried using different Windows 7/8 media with no luck.

Hi i am assuming the OS you have in is a Linux system although i dont recognize

the one your talking about , could you not use  gpedit? partion editor to create a NTFS file system

then Windows will see it and install to it. Failing that reformat , install windows and then reinstall other OS.

Sorry if this isn't the problem , not great with comp stuffSmiley Happy

Yes, however I used 2 different 2.5 HDD's and neither are recognized as bootable in windows media. It doesn't matter which version of windows I use etc. 7-8. I used 1 of the 2 HDD on my desktop to install windows 8 and when I installed the HDD back into the travelmate. It gets to the windows startup screen and just freezes. Is there a way to get access within the bios to advanced options.I dislike the fact OEM manufacturer's limit access to this.

I am not familiar with that model. the disk may have the wrong formatting though (fixable).  See http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/gg463525.aspx

If I need to reformat a drive I have a little USB power and adpter kit that let me mount it as a slave on my desktop and can reformat from the MBR and partition table on out. (Can start with DiskPart.exe).

I've tried that on my desktop PC. I really dont want to pay for Acer support. There has to be a key sequence in the bios that will enable advanced options. In there, I can see if the hard disk is set to boot. Creating a partition and formatting can be done on any PC but if it is not set to boot in the bios I'm wasting my time.
