Acer aspire 3 A315-43-R1U2 Slow wifi

This question is about a brand new Acer Aspire 3 running windows 11 Pro.

Wifi speed (speedtest.net) consistently top at 25 to 30 Mbit download (up 35 to 40), regardless of distance from router (Asus AX55 wifi6 router). The Acer is connected to 5 GHz wifi5/ac. The fiber from ISP is 250 mbit and I get 250 to 300 mbit when I connect the Acer via TP cable. Android phone reach 250 Mbit connected via wifi6 and another android connected via wifi5 reach 100 to 225 mbit, all from the same locations as the acer.

Tried so far: Uninstalling/reinstalling the Acer MediaTek 802.11AC MT7663 Wireless LAN Card. Downloading and installing the NC driver directly from Acer. Connected via cyberghost VPN instead of ISP. Disabled the Asus router AI protection (sends data via Trend Microsystems). Nothing made any difference to the measured download speed over wifi.

Noticed: Before I discovered the slow download speed I suddenly lost wifi connection, and got the yellow exclamation mark on the wificard in device manager, restart of computer did not change anything. Thats when I removed the NC and restarted the computer so that it reinstalled automatically. After that I never saw the yellow exclamation mark and wifi worked fine except for the speed. Since then I tried installing new NC driver according to above. Note that the low speed may well have been an issue before the NC started acting up, it was only after this I started testing the speed..

I did not install any new programs or made any alterations that I could link to the issue.

I have no clue how to continue investigating, and would be very grateful for advice on how to proceed!

Have you tried to change the channel from the router setup and try?

Keep in mind that the Wi-Fi connection is exposed to many factors such as the channel, obstacles, interference, distance...

The fact that other devices work better in the same location does not necessarily indicate that the problem is with that device as the device may be more sensitive to interference or distance.

Besides. The 5Ghz network has less range than the 2.4 Ghz network, but it has the advantage that its bandwidth is greater and it is less affected by interference, and you also get faster speeds compared to the 2.4 Ghz network.

Did you use the Acer update or the slightly newer generic update. ?

I got myself the a8gy today and had the same issue. I took a 98 cent steak knife and I pulled the back off it and this is what I see. (The first picture) I have extensive knowledge on the bad little suckers right here. And I immediately know that those two one white one black wires should definitely not just be sitting there on the board doing nothin. That’s like trying to run any **** m2 WiFi adapter. Any of them. It’s an old radio without the stainless steel retractable removable antenna. I bet you won’t even get a Zach bagans special class a evp. I’ll bet a 2$ bill that everyone that can’t find any available networks on their laptop unless they’re right next to a router sitting like a dummy catching some WiFi. Yeah no. Not for me k!? It’s the network adapter itself inside the pc after removing the screws on the back and ever so slightly remove the panel. Look for the two wires shown in my provided picture on the network adapter. And just make sure they sit tight to little itty bitty alien chip that provides the world with the ability to wirelessly connect to your homes internet.

if not go ahead and close it down. Ship it off to upstate ny and I’ll have a go with it for free and ship it back to you in the same condition it came out of the box the day you bought it! And that. Is a guarantee

I checked the wifi card connectors and they were connected. I switched to another wifi6 router (TP link) which made speeds jump up consistently to around 90 mbit regardless of router distance. So I switched back to the Asus router and made a complete factory reset on it. Suddenly the 25mit cap was gone, and I got similar speeds as on the TP link. I guess it required a factory reset in order to drop the AI protection thing, which was what was probably slowing things down. Only strange thing is that now I see very similar speeds on the android and on the Acer, no more 250 mbit readings on the android :-(
