Trouble with eRocovery

After a year and a half of faithful service, my Aspire 5552 running Windows 7 started getting really slow and giving the 'not responding'' message far too often. I decided to reinstall everything via the eRocovery partition option. Everything was  going fine until it got to the installing software part. It decided to sit on Lite-on Camera Utility Crystal Eye....5/21. After about three hours waiting, I decided to start again with the disks I made. Same problem occured. Just sat there on 5 of 21 installations. Now I've tried about five times from the disks and get the same problem. Eventually it made it past and finished the software installation but the camera does not work. When I visit various websites to try and download the drivers it tells me ''camera not found''. It worked fine before the reinstallation process. A lot of people seem to have this problem but I was unable to find a solution anywhere. Anybody have an idea as to what I need to do? I'm at a loss.

ps. I tried using the Apps and Drivers option but that still gives the ''camera not found''.

I'm sorry that you're having issues with the webcam.  I do see that there are three different cameras that could have been shipped in the system.  You may wish to use the hardware detection tool provided on our Drivers page to determine what hardware is installed.

Thank you for the reply, Tommy.

I've already downloaded the detection tool. It said the camera is a Lite-On. I've also downloaded the camera utility on the Acer website. When I double click the Install application it opens what looks like a command prompt box and then another box pops up telling me ''The video web camera isn't found! Please plug in the camera and try the installation again.'' I have no camera to plug in because it's in the lid. I also don't know what to do with the...Put these two exe files (setup.exe ; install.exe) in same path
use the command line ¡§install¡¨ instead of ¡§setup /S /v/qn¡¨  in the preload image script.
( install.exe will launch setup.exe with Silence mode "/S /v/qn" directly . )...that's in the release notes file. I have no idea where I'm supposed to put those two exe files.

I'm sure you noticed by now that I'm not a very computer literate person. I did search the community but didn't find any answers relevant to my problem. Maybe I missed something. Any other advice?

What the instructions are indicating is that you should "Extract all Files" to one directory and then run the file, Install.exe.  This should install the Lite-on web camera application and driver.

If the application fails to find the appropriate hardware, it will not install.

If that is the case the only other option I would be able to offer would be to contact service for assistance with the hardware.

JustMe, I researched your problem, and there are many possible causes. Here are some suggestions:

    1) Be aware that your webcam might have failed. I doubt it, but it's possible.

    2) Get ready for this one. Disconnect from the internet and then try it. Don't laugh; I found two posters who said that it worked for them.

    3) Go to Control Panel, System, Device Manager, Imaging Devices (sometimes not necessary) and find your webcam. Make sure that it is enabled.

    4) Similar to #1. Empty your browser cache. However, if #1 didn't work, I doubt that this will.

    5) If you are using Windows 8, the Start Page has a tile for Camera and another one for Acer Crystal Eye. Try each one and see if one of them works.

    Tommy, here's what I did.

I went to the Acer website. I downloaded the Lite-On camera utility. Once it was downloaded I extracted to Camera_liteon_1.0.4.0_W7x86W7x64_A. I then opened the folder and there was another folder. I opened that folder and there were three files inside: Install, Release Notes, and Setup. When I dbl click the Install, that's when the command prompt looking thing pops up then the other one pops up telling me there's no camera. The Release Notes state the previous reply by me. Running the Setup goes through the process then tells me no camera was found. I'm at a loss here.

    Vince,

    1) Camera worked just fine before I used the eRecovery options, both the partition and the disks I made. Since the reinstall hung for about six hours on the Lite-On software install, it probably wasn't installed.

    2) I disconnected from internet and went to try the camera. There doesn't seem to be a launch or whatever it is option in the Crystal Eye folder. Just uninstall. Never looked there until your suggestion.

    3) Device Manager says there is a 1.3M HD WebCam. Updated the driver and it told me the best one was installed.

    4) Tried that. Still nothing.

    5) Running Windows7.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

Have you tried the 'Uninstall' option in Device Manager for the camera and then click 'Action' and 'Scan for Hardware Changes' to reinstall the webcam?

Tried it. Reinstalled it but when I run the setup app it still says no camera is found.

    Thanks for the suggestion.
