Uriah, you own a $450 monster with a 17.3" screen. In order to give you that much size, for that low a price, the manufacturer had to sacrifice other things. Despite having four gigs of RAM, your rig has to run slowly in order to keep that monitor happy. Since Windows 8 uses less resources than Windows 7, 7 cannot go faster. In addition, the design of your hardware, along with your drivers, are designed for Windows 8.

But don't despair. Tell us specifically what's wrong when you use your desktop replacement, and we'll see what we can do to help.

okay okay i understand what youres saying. downgrading is a bad option

this thing just freezes about 1-3 times almost everyday. just randomly while im multi tasking. if im listening to music and clicking around on the web, the freeze (probably a watchdog violation) will happen and my music goes static. its really annoying. i remember a few times the freeze happened right after i right click + copy something :/  i dont want it to happen at the wrong time you know??

i did everything to try and prevent the freeze. turned off animations, defrag regularly, put laptop to sleep mode, checked drivers etc...

Uriah, you need more RAM. You are multi-tasking beyond your rig's ability. There is another possible solution:

Install the free Win Patrol program, using Win Patrol's own site so you don't get any bloatware sneaked in. Use Win Patrol to check your start-up programs, and Disable (Do not Delete!) anything you don't want . Do not interfere with anything from Microsoft or Acer. Later, if everything is all right, you can go back and Delete unwanted programs.

Many bloatware programs have adjusted to Win Patrol, so check the tab for currently running programs. Again, do not Delete anything until your computer has run well for a while with the programs Disabled.

Your rig keeps locking up because you are running more tasks than the CPU and RAM can handle. Getting rid of bloatware will help.

Great suggestions. Also go to Control Panel / System / Advanced system settings / Advanced tab / in the Performance section goto 'Settings' and on the Visual Effects tab click 'Adjust for best performance" click Apply. This will help. You can also change your Virtual Memory settings, click Custom, and use double the amount of what Windows uses as the Recommended size for "Initial" and under the Maximize size double your initial size, for example if the Recommended is 2024 use 4048 as Minimum, and 8096 as Maximum. Definitely upgrade your RAM and when you can move to a SSD drive, you won't believe the responsiveness of your system even with a low-end CPU, it's well worth the investment; but the easieset thing to do is use the software tweaks as recommended and upgrade your RAM. Good luck.
