Acer UT241Y. I want to get this to replace a 15". Does this require the HDMI for display connection or will it work with just a Video/data carrying USB-C ? My 15 " touch functions this way. It has HDMI input, but I don't use it. I only have the power and USB data cable connected. I need My HDMI for another display.

It isnt too clear, but i think it does support USB video as it mentions DP alt mode in the user guide which is a USB feature, if you have a c to c cable and a samsung, most support DP out over HDMI could be worth a quick try :)

Thanks for the reply. Yes, it isn't clear. I accessed the manual online, but it's too generic. I tried another brand which works well but it won't accept the signal unless the HDMI is connected, so I returned it and purchased a replacement hoping it was a malfunction. Same result, so I'm returning this one also. I suppose I'll have to do the same with this ACER.

Remember that not all USB-C ports on the computer side support Alt Mode displays. What computer are you connecting to, and does it support DP Alt Mode?

I'm connecting to a ThunderboltEx 4 card. No problem with my little 15.6 display using the same cable/connection. Will be trying different procedures. Sometimes the power-up sequence does magic things. Over the years I've found that some peripherals and computers sometimes don't behave well with each other at POST/BOOT.

OK, so we know that port support Alt Mode... Try turning the monitor on and wait for it to boot, then plug the USB cable in and bring the system up...

Good news but sorry to say not for ACER. I got it working. Disconnected HDMI, powered up the computer with the touch monitor turned off. That worked, powered the monitor and it functions. The system doesn't like this display active at boot for some reason. Won't worry about that for now. I may still return this and try the ACER, $100 less. Thanks for your assistance, appreciate it.
