My Nitro5 suddenly decided to only work off the charger, not on battery power. Blue light indicates fully charged, but disconnect the power lead and it turns off. Sent it to service centre they say needs new motherboard.

Still under warrantybut Acer are refusing to repair, Anyone else had the power issue or refusal of warranty?

Does sound like a blown charging ciruit, the exact same happened to me. What are they saying its not covered by?

They are saying, that as I purchased the laptop in the UK, but asked for warranty service in Bulgaria, the warranty doesn't cover repair. I have tried to look on Acer webpages for UK warranty info, but it just brings up the EEA warranty, which doesn't now cover the UK.

I am assuming that the battery power supply is a part of the motherboard as the service agent quoted for replacing that whole board at a cost of 2800Leva (£1300 or 1450 US).

I should get the laptop back today, together with the warranty booklet, I can then see what it actually states.

I am back in the UK in 4 weeks, so will take the laptop back to the retailer and get them to replace/ refund.

The fact that this happened to others, shows a design/ manufacturing fault, which will help me with my claim under consumer law.

I have also contacted Acer's CEO directly to let him know of my thoughts on the warranty and asked him for his personal authorisation of replacement.

    We shall see!

I find ACER webpages very hard to get info from.
