I can't remember the specifics of the mounting system anymore. Sorry! You can try using what you have. Basically what can happen is either of one these two:

    1) If the longer screws can go through the mounting bracket (metal plate on the other side of the motherboard under your CPU), there's no problem.

    2) If the screws bottom out (in other words, you can't tighten them all the way), the contact might be too loose or even nonexistent. This would naturally cause high temperatures. In this case you could try using washers and make the screws shorter so to speak.

If the screws are too long and fail to provide good enough contact, you'll notice it soon. The cooler may even wobble or rattle on top of the CPU if you twist or pull it a little. Don't use force! If there's no movement and the cooler sits tightly, it should be safe to power up the PC.

Just keep an eye on the temps. If the fans start to run at full blast while the CPU is idling, you have a bad contact.

    Good luck!

Hello me again, I feel totally lost again, I’m at my pC ready to install this cpu cooling fan the NH-D9L, about to follow the steps from the original post and basically it’s a totally different set up, everything is so different, I’m at a loss because now I have no idea what to do :( I can’t find any tutorials on how to install the fan either.

Also I’ve just watched some on YouTube and I need to take the motherboard out of my PO3-630 Which I don’t know how to or if it’s even possible, I’m quite upset I wish I bought the U9S, if anyone can help my problem please let me know :)

You don't need to take the motherboard out with that Noctua, you just have to use the slightly different length screws.

The process should be pretty straight forward. The pictures in page one should help a lot. Like Billsey mentioned above, there's no need to remove the motherboard.

If you can, could you take a few pictures of the cooler and what came with it? If you have already removed the original cooler, take a picture of the surrounding of the CPU as well.

Although I found this guide late, this guide will work for the Orion 5000 PO5-640. I did have to get the extra screws of Amazon which is apparent now reading through. I ordered a pupu platter of screws and used the M3 13mm but am sure 12 or 10mm would work also. With a Plagues Tale Requiem max settings temps went from 85-87c with peaks in the low 90c to mid 60s low 70s.

Thanks so much for writing this up! I have had a similar issue since buying my Predator Orion, very hot CPU while gaming and obnoxiously loud fans. I bought the same Noctua cooler mentioned here and was a bit flummoxed by the different setups, but I followed your simple instructions here and got it installed! CPU temps while gaming are still quite high (around 60 Celsius) but this is with the fans set to auto which seems relatively gentle, and it drops faster when the fan speeds are ramped up.

    Thanks again!

Thank you for the write up! I installed the NH-U9S as well on my PO3-640-UA91 and it seems to be doing well. I am having an issue and was wondering if anyone else has run into it.

In the fan control section on the predator sense software I can control the fan speed, but the settings for custom mode only allow 60% pwm for the lowest setting. The issue is that the pwm is not synced with the new fan. For example: 60% in the custom setting is maxing out the NH-U9S at 2000 RPMs (this fans max speed). Is there any way to rescale the pwm percentage to wear 2000 RPMs is at 100% instead of 60%?

I don't believe they have that functon exposed in the GUI for Predator Sense. :(

If you can live without PredatorSense, try free Fan Control software. You should be able to control even the fans of your GPU with it.

first off make sure the fan is plugged in to the same place the stock cooler was then you have to use the low noise adapter cable supplied with it then it will work.

I actually downloaded fan control but it only picked up the GPU fan. I've heard of the Acer software preventing other programs from detecting the other fans.

yeah, it did the same thing with my 5000 series, so i got rid of it lol, we are stuck with predator sense, its not bad at all, but unless we change MBs, mines ordered lol, im even getting a new case and putting everything in there, then this 5000 case will be my back up for spare parts-future build.

Maybe it would help if you unistalled PS altogether. I see no real use for it and there are way better programs for monitoring temps etc. than PS.

well, if we uninstall predator sense what are we too use for our lights and fans? because nothing else works with our acer MB i have tested and tried several diffy programs, and none work, and i like predator sense its a bare bones to the point program that does what its intended to do.

If you want to control the lighting then you may have to keep using PS. Maybe there will be a solution soon, as MS is planning on making their own RGB controller. Can't say if it will work with Acer, but… here's hoping.

well, for the lighting and fans we need predator sense, because nothing else will work with our acer predator desktops, unless we change the MB, im doing that soon, already have it on order and a new case, so it will look totally different haha ill post pics when done its going to be epic !!@!!

I know this post is a bit old but I'm planning on getting both backside fan replacement and CPU cooler replacement for my P03-630, though I've decided to go with the Black version since it will match the PCs color more. But I'm just wondering if attaching the bracket requires those M3x12mm screws or if the old screws work, or if there's any screws included for attaching it.

well, if you remove the MB and use the noctua plate for that cooler, it comes with all the hardware to install.. i didnt remove the MB so i used the acer plate thats why i need the 4x3mx10mm screws, what tower cooler are you getting ?
