High CPU temps and usage on Battlefield 2042 - Predator Orion 5000 PO5 640

So I am currently experiencing higher than usual cpu usage and temps whenever I play battlefield 2042. My cpu usage is north of 90%, and temps hover in the mid to high 70s. What makes it weird is that the temps for my rtx 3070 gpu remain stable in the 40s and 50s. I have visited several threads on reddit and the EA help forums and evidently this is a known issue that the devs have acknowledged as a result of their latest update and that they are still working on a fix. In the meantime, what I want to know is how can I shift some of the workload from my cpu over to my gpu? I have read that this game is very cpu heavy and want to do anything I can to minimize the stress on my i7. I would have thought that a 12 core cpu would have been plenty to handle a game such as this, but I am aware that dice dropped the ball a bit as far as pc optimization is concerned. I am currently running 48gb of ddr5 ram, and can run other games (cod mw2, halo infinite) fine with cpu and gpu temps stable in the 50s and low to mid 60s, so this is definitely an issue with how poorly optimized battlefield is on pc.

It's unfortunate because I really do enjoy playing battlefield 2042 but I get worried when I keep seeing my cpu temps slowly approaching 80 degrees Celsius, and probably not a good idea to keep my cpu at that temp for too long...

With your PO5-640 i7-12700F and its RTX3070 and if you are running at screen resolution 2048 × 1152 ratio 16:9 you should only be getting about a 3.5% cpu bottleneck which is not huge and there should be no reason why running Battlefield 2042 should cause any overheating and/or stress onto your PC. Try to fit a new cpu cooler like the excellent Noctua NH-U9S chromemax.black cpu cooler to cool the cpu down and upgrade the case fans also, as you must be having cooling issues with this PO5-640 hence and why its overheating in a high-end game like Battlefield 2042.

The only way if you want to play higher end games is to upgrade to the higher end Predator 7000 specs like its 13th gen i9-13900K and its RTX3090 specs with upgrading to a Z790 chipset mobo that will run the 13th gen i9-13900K, as then you will get much better performance and zero precent bottlenecking,

I should have mentioned I have been running it at 2560 x 1440p, which I thought the rig could easily handle. But I can try dialing down the res to see I that helps.

are Ya running the fans in gaming mode? i assume you are but i have to ask i don't play any of those games so i can't compare

@chugzilla I sure am lol it's the first thing I do before I even launch steam. But I definitely think it's the game and not my pc because keeping my fans in gaming mode and upgrading to 48gb ram helped tremendously with every other game I play. My temps rarely go past 60.

I had the same CPU cooling issues, I installed the Noctua U12a rather than the U12s, the case can fit it easily and has better performance. I was running in the high 90s for temps when I was maxing out games, now I consistently sit around 63.

@patches0311 Wow thats impressive. So, I am a complete pc noob, can you explain what exactly what goes into the install for the Noctura? Is it one fan that goes over the CPU and is it an easy DIY job?

well, that's good we have to make sure we don't overlook the basics Haha and yeah, my hottest running game is Days Gone with its default optimized settings it hits like 61 that's it lol .it's usually at 56-59 on average...but ..every now and again i noticed when it is loading it may go as high as 71 and I'm not sure why but its only when its loading the game and then my granddaughter will play online games in the edge browser like something from the bluey site or mickey mouse site and they sit at like 75 i find that kind of odd but its def got to be the browser causing those heat issues and yes one of these days I'm going to install a better CPU fan possibly the noctua dual fan one like others in here have The NH-U12A chromax.black like patches0311 did

Yeah, come next black friday I might just do the same. I've read several threads on here from people stating good things about the Noctura. Is that something geeksquad would be able to install for me?

@Ol_Snapper it was not at all difficult to install, there are a few YouTube videos that will walk you through it. I used the OEM backplate, basically just remove the OEM fan and radiator, wipe up the old thermal paste with some alcohol and a microfiber. I did have to use some M3 screws I had around (10mm] to attach the Noctua radiator, but all together took me about 30 minutes to swap everything. Even reused the frostblade fan as an exhaust. Happy to answer any specific questions. Here's a pic:

yeah, eventually I'm going to do that same exact thing ^^^^^ and yeah, I'm hearing just use longer screws to make up for the difference also then Ya don't have to remove the MB and i was going to go with the larger nh-d15 but i don't think it will fit looks like that one barely fits with the glass cover on Haha so looks like it's the nh-12a

@patches0311 Is that a single tower cpu cooler? I see options for both single and dual tower on Amazon.

@Ol_Snapper It's a single tower with two fans, one on either side. The model is the NH-U12A, which fits perfectly in the PO5-640 case with a little breathing room. Better performance than the U9S with the extra fan.

Hi. Just a question: As far as I know, the fan air flow direction is towards the support (meaning in this picture, from the cpu towards the front of the case). I might be mistaken, but just wanted to let you know so you can double check. Of course if the other fan has the same air flow direction it won't be an issue (just that the air flow is from the back towards the front which is usually the other way around).

So I was having the same issues with my cpu overheating. Hitting 90+ playing warzone 2. Only thing that dropped it would having the fans on full which I didn't want all the time so I ordered the Noctua NH-U12A chromax.black and installed it today. Was a right pain for me! Had to remove all components to take the motherboard out to change the back plate which wouldn't come out easily. Never worked on a pc before this is my first pc, was a nightmare lol. I'd suggest getting screws like @patches0311 did and mounting the radiator on the OEM backplate. Gonna run some games now and see what the temps are like.

Temp update... it was all worth it. They have gone from 90+ to mid 40s with the fans on auto not running at ridiculous speeds!

I put the exhaust fan on the left, seemed like a better spot to me where heat builds up.

You also didn't need to change the backplate, just use different screws.

I know that now lol. I didn't when I started and it was sunday evening when I started changing it over, just had to go for it. Prefer it to have the proper backplate for the cooler anyway seeing as its much heavier than the OEM cooler.
