Hi Everyone,

I brought a predator PO3-640 which came with 16gb kingston fury ACR32D4U2S1ME-8F (2 x 8gb) installed in slots 1 and 3 on Motherboard. they run at 3200mhz without xmp enabled in the bios. i purchased 2 x KF432C16BB1K2/32 CL16-18-18 1.35v XMP kingston fury 32gb kits and installed them (total of 64gb of 3200mhz ram) once installed i enabled xmp in the bios, The new ram runs at 2400mhz checked via the task manager graph and CPUZ. i have even tried just running one kit in the same slots 1 and 3 (As the original ram was in these slots) yet even with just 32gb of ram it only runs at 2400mhz. in the bios there is no further options to adjust voltages or speed of the ram, only to enable or disable xmp. is there something i am doing wrong to get the ram to run at the advertised speed of 3200mhz. seems as though the motherboard can run it at 3200mhz since the original 16gb can run at that speed, i am kinda new at this PC stuff as ive only ever owned consoles.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The reason and why you are getting the 2400MHz instead of the 3200MHz speeds ram, is because your new 2x kits of the KF432C16BB1K2/32 CL16-18-18 1.35v XMP is the wrong ram and is not compatible for this desktop to run at 3200MHz. Your PO3-640 uses a CL22 type ram (like the OEM ACR32D4U2S1ME-8F) ram types which Acer uses for this desktops memory at CL22 and quotes a total of 64GB into its 4x slots,

You can also do the Crucial system scan or look at this scan result for your PO3-640 here; Acer Predator PO3-640 RAM & SSD Upgrades where Crucial suggests a total memory of 128GB (yes, 128GB total ram is what your desktops I7-12700/ (I7-12700F CPUs max ram specs are and your desktop can run 128GB total ram) also, Crucial guarantees that this total will work with your desktop, into the 4x slots.

    If you look at suggested Crucial 64GB Kit (2 x 32GB) DDR4-3200 UDIMM this ram specs are of a CL22 at DDR4-3200 • CL=22 • NON-ECC • UDIMM • 288-pin • 1.2V • 2Rx8 • PC4-25600

These are all the memory specs, DIMM combinations and ram types recommended by Acer SG for your PO3-640 desktop:

@StevenGen, you sir are a legend. thankyou for clearing all that up for me. ill have to look for some new ram.

i thought it may have something to do with the CL numbers, but i wasnt sure and didnt want to spend anymore money before finding out some more information, i was hoping it was just a setting.

    Howdy I’m in a similar spot w the same pc. 2 sticks of 8gb ram installed. I added 2 sticks of 16gb ram KF432C16BBAK2/32 (3200 ddr4) but I’m getting 2400 speed.

is this happening bc I have 2 sticks of 8gb and 2 sticks of 16gb installed at the same time?

Nope, it's happening because you have two sticks of normal (JEDEC) memory and two sticks of XMP memory. The new memory has a base speed of 2400MHz, so everything clocks down to that lower speed. In order to use XMP memory in your PO3-640 you need it all to be XMP and you need to go into the BIOS and enable XMP overclocking. Either send the XMP back and get the JEDEC, or sell the JEDEC and get some more XMP.

I am having the same issue. Just bought the Predator Orion 3000 PO3-640-UR12 and I added more ram form the 16 gb installed already. Current memory is Adata- AM2P32NC8T1-BGTS. I want to add 16gb at least more for gaming. I added 16GB of Corsair - CMK 16GX4M2B3200C16. It shows it as 3200Mhz also. When installed I now have only 2133 speed. I have gone into the BIOS and checked the XMP profile also. In task manager I show it only running at 2133 with 32GB now. Is this the wrong memory upgrade?

The Corsair is XMP memory with a base speed of 2133MHz. The stock memory is JEDEC, so you need to either take the stock memory out, then turn on XMP in the BIOS, or return the XMP and buy JEDEC instead.

    i removed previous rams (2x8 3200 cl22 1.2v) to put trident Z 2x16 3600cl17 1.35v xmp 2.0

i am in the exact same spot, cant upgrade to 32Gb @ 3200mt with "good looking" RAM with cooling parts....

You cant enable xmp becaus ACER wont let you.

first: you have to buy some RAM with 1,2V

second: with 3200mt, and these are rare and ugly...

    yipeeeeee, cause fu... the customer!

If ANYONE find some good RAM whitch is working on 3200mt/s and goes up to 32GB LET ME KNOW, any combination... 2x16 or 4x8, more like 4x8 because you wont find some with 16gb @ 3200mt/s on 1,2V.

As seen in the previous screen shot, that model does support XMP memory. You don't say what model you have, so we can't tell if it supports XMP or not. The PO3-640 models do...

    I have Predator PO3-640/DG.E2WEB.00R/i7-12700/16 GB 1DIMM/RTX™ 3070

    I bought 1 dimm Adata 16GB AD4U320016G22-SGN (35,90€)

And it seems they are working together in dual channel without any problems … but … a can not appreciate any speed improvement

    Any idea to check that?

(The original Predator dimm came in slot #4, and now is in slot #2 and the new dimm is in slot #4)

all memory no matter if its ddr4 or ddr5 will have different timings unless its the same exact stick, so you would have to buy another predator branded one, or one like the original, what mhz are you getting now? look in the task manager on the memory tab it tells you the speed in there, and to make your pc faster MAX out the memory, i assume yours is 64 gigs like mine, so i have 4x16 crucial in mine all the same part number, and it runs at top speed and optimal performance, and my games smoke now im getting almost 200 FPS, and the specs of ours predators are the same except mines a 5000 series running ddr5.

I'm not sure just how much difference you are going to see between single channel and dual channel mode at 3200MT/s. Some memory accesses will be twice as fast, some will be at the same speed. It really depends on what is doing the memory access, how many tasks are running and how those tasks are programmed. From what I understand the big differences come up when two tasks are accessing memory simultaneously, in single channel mode the second task has a wait for the first to release, in dual channel mode both can do memory access at the same time. So multi threaded apps will see the biggest gain.

You asked me about mhz and you can see all info that CPU-z can bring.

In the shop crucial was 2€ more expensive, and I chose both sticks be Adata.

    Thats the point Billsey!

Is there any game or app that I can appreciate a dual channel improvement?

    :-/

Tough to call… I'd expect image manipulation or video editing software to be multi-threaded in a significant way. Games typically off load the really intensive stuff to the GPU, so don't need much multi-threading on the CPU side. Anything that requires a lot of user input isn't going to do to much multi-threading, since it will just be waiting for the user more often than not.

I would like to know if it's sure that I can overclock my ram on Acer Predator Orion po3-640, on the bios it's not possible. Do you think that if I change the stock ram I will be able to overclock the new one? And in that case, will It be worth it to put 2x ram 16gb to get them in dual rank?

Your BIOS says it does support XMP profile memory:

But reports from the field tend to suggest it's either not really supported or supported only with some specific configurations. Our best guess is that you need, at the minimum, for all memory to be the same XMP brand and size in order for that to work.
