Hi, I've been wanting to upgrade my laptop (Acer Swift 3) from factory 256GB SSD to maybe 500GB or 1TB; however, I wanted to make sure the drive I buy will be compatible with the slot. To this end, I looked up my laptop model but found some discrepancies.

  1. The box in which it came says the model is Acer Swift SF314-54-379C. That same label says that the processor is an Intel Core i3-7130U.
  2. A run through dxdiag indicates that the processor is, instead, an Intel Core i3-8130U, which leads me to believe that the model stated in the box is incorrect or different since it includes a different component.
  3. Using the detection utility found in this page, it only says the product name is Swift SF314-54, which, according to the nomenclature used in the label, lacks another part including a combination of letters and numbers.

As I said, I want to find the exact model of my laptop so I can buy the right component, which leads to the following question: what kind of SSD is compatible with my laptop? Currently, it has only 1 slot, used by the factory Micron 1100 M.2 (MTFDDAV256TBN-1AR1ZABYY) 256GB SATA solid state drive.

Thanks in advance to anyone reading and answering this.

The model number that you have if its the Acer Swift SF314-54-379C is the NX.GXZED.012, look at this PDF spec sheet, is a laptop that has the i3-8130U Kaby Lake-R CPU with the integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 and has internal soldered memory of 8GB and has a 1 only (1 bank of 1) Slot and Acer recommends a max memory total capacity of 12GB (which means you can only add a 1x DDR4-SDRAM 4GB memory module) and this laptop can operate on M.2 ssd drive of PCIe 3 x4 and runs on a b battery capacity of the 3320 mAh type.. This laptops i3-8130U CPU is also compatible with Win-11 which I would upgrade this laptop to, if you run the memory at 16GB and the CPIe 3x4 M.2 SSD and update all the windows updates, install the Intel Driver Support scan as all that will make this laptop perform to its peak with Win-11 Home that is a free upgrade and should be done as a "Clean Install" only and not a windows update upgrade.

The simplest way is for you to do the Crucial System Scan of your laptop, as that will give you all the appropriate ram and ssd type drives that work with your SF314-54-379C laptop, as they also suggest a max total memory into this laptops 1x slot at 8GB (which is a total of 16GB) at 8GB DDR4-2400 • CL=17 • NON-ECC • SODIMM • 260-pin • 1.2V • 1Rx8 • PC4-19200 type removable memory and Crucial suggested their M.2 SSD drives at either PCIe NVMe Gen 3 • 3,500 MB/s Read, 3,000 MB/s Write and even the M.2 SSD • PCIe NVMe Gen 4 • 5,000 MB/s Read, 3,600 MB/s Write, so do the scan as Crucial guarantees their scan results to work for whatever this scan suggests for their ram memory and ssd drives.

The exact model number will be on the sticker on the underside of the laptop. Hopefully it's still legible.

You can use the scan utility available at www.crucial.com to determine what sort of SSD is suitable for an upgrade. It will certainly accept a larger SATA drive (size only limited by your wallet) but might also accept faster NVMe drives.
