Ok so loving my predator, no problems at all. So i have a good upgrade coming up. I got 2x16 gig crucial ram sticks, and a crucial 2 TB M.2 on the way to me. My question is, i believe i have a second empty m.2 slot on my motherboard, and since this new m.2 has better performance, should i use my external m.2 enclosure to clone my drive so i can have my system and windows running off the new drive in the first m.2 slot? Will that preform better? Or should i just throw the better stick in slot 2 and load it with games?

Last small question: do i NEED to remove my cpu fan to install ram? Because i can work around it safely.

I would install it to a empty slot, if you have one. The difference in booting up, loading a game etc. is few seconds here and there. In my opinion, not really worth all the hassle. The difference between even a SATA SSD and PCIe gen4 M.2 drive is pretty small when loading times are concerned.

You should be able to replace the RAM without removing the cooler.

You will get slightly better performance with the new drive in M.2 slot 1. That comes directly off the Alder Lake-S, the second slot comes off the PCH chip. They are both PCIe 4.0 x4 so the difference is really minimal, just the overhead in transferring data from the PCH to Alder Lake to memory vs directly to memory. You should be able to boot from either slot, so I'd put the new drive in 1, the old drive in 2, boot from 2 and clone to 1, then boot from 1 and wipe 2.

Yea i will try that, that sounds about right. But ***** man, i did a overall benchmark before and after my ram and ssd upgrades. And to my horror it significantly decreased absolutely everything in my computer? Like my cpu was preforming horrible, and on my bios it says im getting 4400 hz instead of my 4800.

I've included below the mobo descriptions for your PO5-640 that its only M.2 SSD slots are as follows:

    1. M.2 #1 - (2230) slot combine with PCIE and USB2.0 and CNVi forWLAN
    2. M.2 #2 - (2280&2242) slot combine with 4 PCIe Gen4 for PCIe/ SSD & Intel Optane memory
    3. M.2 #3 - (2280) slot for SSD with PCIe Gen4 signall

Both M.2 # 2 and 3 are the same speeds at M.2 slots at PCIe 4 x4 (but the differences are what billsey has said above). For the ram have a look at the Acer suggested OEM ram types below and also the Acer Predator Orion 5000 PO5-640 RAM Upgrades for best memory spec and combo guides, which I hope you looked at before ordering the Crucial ram?

In order the run memory faster than 4400MHz you have to have XMP overclocking enabled, and all ram in the system has to support XMP overclocking... What memory did the factory have installed and what memory did you put in?

the only thing i can think of is..... what slots do you have the crucial in ?..i also bought 2x16 gig... and have them in slots 1 and 3 and in slots 2 and 4 i have the samsung 8 gig memory that came with the pc ....so i am running 16-8-16-8 the crucial is 40-40-40-77 and the samsung is 40-40-40-76 so close it doesn't even matter ....and mines even faster ....but all i upgraded was the memory so maybe its your ssd upgrade ?....and yes u can sneak a stick of ram in the 4th slot without removing the cooler....good luck and these guys here are awesome with help...they have helped me many times over...ohh and btw acer limits any memory we add to 4400 mhz ....and when ya run 4 sticks no matter what combo.... it reads 2000 mhz in quad band.... i have tested every way possible and called crucial and acer lever 2 support etc....i even had 2 of these at my house at the same time i had a defective return so i had 2 po5-640-ub11's at my house for a few days so thats when i tested the memory and had 4-8 gig sticks and it still read 2000 mhz....so ya know ...like i said i have tested alot in every possible way ....was well worth all the work and effort

oh wow, I didn't even think of running all 4 together. does that seem to preform the best for you? maybe ill do that too since it looks like we have all the same parts. ill set mine up the same way and see. but I have my 2x16 in 2 and 4. i ended up throwing the ssd in the empty #3 slot and everything seems to be running ok now. the only thing im worried about is the SSD is not showing up in their crucial storage executive program. well it shows up in the system info part but wont let me enable momentum cache or any other feature in the program.

i dont know about the ssd i have external ones so i wont be adding any internal....and yeah the more memory the faster it runs i have 48 gig and its alot better than just the 32 from crucial i tested both....with my games and tests so def take advantage of that feature....but it has to be 16-8-16-8 or 8-16-8-16 just keep that in mind when adding what came with yours....and btw what name brand did yours come with.... ? my first one came with hynix 40-39-39-76 the 2nd one came with samsung 40-40-40-76 kinda odd but whatever.....and i know the crucial is 40-40-40-77 lol and i also noticed the more memory you have the cpu runs cooler i keep predator sense open on my 2nd monitor so i can track whats going on and i always game with the fans in gaming mode....but this pc is really good and there are not many upgrades besides memory that need to be made....everything that came with my model is good and ill be buying 2 more crucial 2x16 eventually to max out at 64 gig and thats the last and only upgrades im doing is the memory...no reason to upgrade anything else at all...

May I ask that where you get the PO5-640 mainboard placement document from? Can't find it on Acer's Official website.

It is snipped from the Acer Service Guide, which isn't publicly available. A few of us are allowed access and provided with permission to post sections like that.

It depends on which Predator Orion 5000 model you have. Best is to look at the memory that is installed now and match it. If not by model number at least by specs...
