Acer Swift1 SF114-32 SSD issue, loading screen would pop up and go black and says No bootable device

Hi, so my partner's laptop is having some issues. The initial issue we had was it would power on, the Acer loading screen would pop up but then the screen would go black and the laptop would still be powered on. We would have to force it off with the pinhole button on the underside. I can still get into the bios and initially, there was a bootable device present in the bios but now it has disappeared and when you go to power on the device it says "No bootable device". Am I right in thinking it's an issue with the SSD and if so can I replace it with any M.2 SSD?

On a side note, I have opened the laptop up to make sure the SSD is installed correctly and have made no changes in the bios.

If the hdd is not getting detected in bios, there might be a loose connection of hdd present inside your computer. You might have to reset the hdd and check whether the components are connected properly. Try to reseat the components including the hdd. It should detect the hdd in bios.

Once the hdd is detected in bios it should load the windows in the normal way otherwise we have to to try other troubleshooting steps to make it to work properly.

No luck, unfortunately. I had another look at the m.2 SSD that is installed and even reinstalled it to make sure it is in properly but still not detecting any bootable drive.

If your laptop is in warranty you can contact the warranty dept. Go to the website support.acer.com - chose your country. On the new page - scroll down - click on "contact support". Scroll down. You can find the phone no to contact the warranty dept.

OK, that the drive installed is in an M.2 form factor helps a lot, some of the SF114-32 models had an eMMC drive soldered to the motherboard, and those are more problematic. Your system supports either a SATA drive, an NVMe x2 drive or an NVMe x4 drive. The x2 will be around twice as fast as a SATA and the x4 will be around twice as fast as an X2. You will likely have to do a fresh reinstall of the OS since the factory image on the old drive is likely not accessible. Download an image from Microsoft to a spare flash drive. When the replacement SSD arrives go into the BIOS and make sure the F12 boot menu is enabled. Install the new drive, put it back together and use the F12 key at boot time to select the flash drive as your boot source. From there just follow the prompts to install Windows, choose Home if offered a choice. Once it's installed and running allow Windows update to update any and all drivers, and if anything ends up missing install from Acer's support site. Go ahead and go into Settings; Activation and activate your Windows install and you should be good to go.
