i have 2 al2216w, on main & backup computers,1 using the vga input, 1 the dvi.

today i switched them & discovered the 1 that was fine with vga input sez 'no input' when plugged in dvi.

is there some trick i'm missing or could the dvi input have been bad all this time?

i should mention its started doing the off/on bit when i 1st turn it on, probably the capacitors going, but that should be separate from the video issue shouldn't it?

You have two AL2216W monitors, connected to different systems.  One is connected via VGA and the other via DVI.

You attempted to swap the monitors and discovered that the one that has been working on VGA does not work on DVI.

    Is that correct?

If so, you would need to contact your local Acer service center for options.

This is a known issue with Acer monitors -it was probably bad when you got it.  My x213w works great on vga but not at all with DVI.

Sound like you should have contacted support about that justjeff.

I'm not aware of this being a "known issue with Acer monitors," at all.  Every monitor I've used (and purchased) has worked wonderfully with all of the provided ports, VGA, DVI, or HDMI.

If you've having port issues, please contact your local Acer service center so we can get it addressed.
