I just purchased an AN515-57-59EY. It came with a 512gb m2. I want to completely delete the drive and install a clean version of Win 11 Pro. I have an original disk and code to install. I tried to install it from an external drive, but it does not work. I followed the normal procedures from letting it boot from the drive. But still nothing. Is there a way to clean the drive and install the new Windows?

To do a proper "Clean Install" of Win-11 (make sure that you install the latest 22H2 OS build 22621.674) first download the .ISO file as you can run the Win-11 install within Win-10, download the Win-11 installation .ISO from Microsoft site Download Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO) as all the Win-11 you download from this Microsoft site have the Pro version that you have only gets triggered by the Key that you put in during installation or if you have an MS registration of a digital key for a Pro version. To do a proper Clean Install of Win-11 do this:

    ISO Installation:

    1. If you want to install Windows 11 directly from the ISO file without using a DVD or USB flash drive, you can do so by mounting the ISO file. This will perform an upgrade of your current operating system to Windows 11.

    2. To mount the ISO file:

    a. Go to the location where you downloaded the ISO file. Then, right-click the ISO file and select Properties.

    b. On the "General" tab, click "Change…" where it says, “Opens with:" and select Windows Explorer for the program you would like to use to open ISO files and select Apply.

    c. Right-click the ISO file and select Mount.

This will create a “virtual” bootable disc. Double-click on it to view the files within. Double-click setup.exe to start Windows 11 setup.

Note: Before you start the clean install and the compete format of the 512BG M.2 drive of your AN515-57 make sure that you download onto a separate USB the AN515-57’s IRST (Intel® Rapid Storage Technology) Driver Version: 18.6.1.1016.2, as after you start the Win-11 installation and completely format the boot drive, you will need to install this driver at “Load driver” the “IRST (Intel® Rapid Storage Technology) Driver” for your laptop to reinstate the boot drive and to continue the Win-11 installation, finish the installation and make sure that all the “Windows Updates” are up to date.

After, install the “Intel® Driver & Support Assistant” do a scan, as this will tell you the latest Intel drivers for Win-11 and also download and install the latest driver for your gpu at NVIDIA Driver Downloads but make sure that with the NVIDIA driver installation, you use and click the “Custom (Advanced)” mode to “Perform a clean installation” and do a clean install. That is all that you have to do, it’s a simple and the most effective way for your laptop to work 100% and properly.

You could also use Rufus to convert the iso file to a bootable USB thumb drive or USB external drive. Rufus gives you options to select language and keyboard before install. https://rufus.ie/en/

If you format the whole disk and use an external drive to boot from you will run into problems as Windows needs to copy all the drivers. When I tried it, there was no mouse and no wifi.

Windows 10 and 11 will mount the iso file automatically when you click or double-click on it in File Explorer. It takes about twenty seconds. You can then launch setup.exe.

After installing, you can delete any recovery partition and add the space to your C: drive. Don't delete the two small partitions, ESP and MSR!

The IRST may be a zip file. Do I open it and then copy to USB or copy before I unzip?

The external drive works. It just gets to the place that says load drivers.
