When I’m charging my laptop, the blue light appears but it won’t turn on. When I hold the power button for about 30 seconds, the light flickers red/orange for a split second then back to blue but nothing happens.

When it’s unplugged, I held the power button for about 30 seconds and it flickered to red/orange light. But still nothing happened. I made sure it wasn’t on sleep mode or the brightness level. Still nothing.

It was fine literally a few days ago. I don’t know what happened :( help

Fyi: my laptop model is sf514-55T-53B8.

Your SF514-55T has a battery reset pin hole on the bottom near the corner. Usually those symptoms mean the battery has gotten confused and it can be fixed by using the battery reset. Shutdown and remove all peripherals and the power. Flip the notebook over and use something like a bent paperclip to press and hold the reset button for 15-30 seconds. Release the button and wait 15-30 minutes before plugging the charger back in. With the charger in place wait for the battery to show the blue full charge light and try to turn it back on. More often than not that reset procedure will cover it... Let us know if it does or doesn't for you.

I tried a couple of times but it still didn’t turn on. It’s still the same situation, blinks red after holding the power button.

OK, there are two status indicators on the right side of your laptop. Which of the two is blinking, and is it red or amber?

Only the battery indicator is solid amber when it’s charging. When the power button is held, it also appears solid amber for a moment. The other light bulb indicator doesn’t blink/appear. Even after resetting the battery and letting it charge back to blue, the laptop still will not turn on.

OK, the light you are seeing seems to be the battery status light and it's acting about as it should. Off without the charger, amber when charging and blue when fully charged. It might still be a battery problem you are dealing with, but it's less likely. The second light is supposed to be on when the system is booting or booted and flashing slowly when in sleep mode. Since it's not coming on at all we can assume the system isn't booting. Since the battery status light does come on momentarily when you press the power button, the power button is likely working physically. That all points to a more catastrophic failure of the motherboard or processor. :(

Hi Ddar, Did you ever solve your problem? I have the SF514-55Twhich inexplicably switched itself off and won't come back on. I tried the reset button and took the back off the unit so that I could disconnect the battery and the cmos battery. It still doesn't work.

I can see no obvious fault on the motherboard and quite soon I will resort to removing this to see if there is anything obvious on the reverse side.

If you found a better solution, you might save me some time and anguish.
