Only face camera and 0.3 Mp... Hard to take pictures.

There is a chapter in user guide about camera (pg 35 in french version).

I have read the user guide, there is a lovely picture on the screen of a woodland scene. And the inference that you can take/video any scene. Still can't see how I can take anything but me!

Turn the tablet so it faces the object you want to take a picture of, then guess where to press to take the picture. :-)

That's one way I suppose but I still say the user manual is misleading, bigtime! I was trying to minimise the number of devices I carry around but that clearly can't happen.

I have been told there should be an icon that turns the camera internally, but that clearly isn't the case with the B-170 ... Poor device descriptions!

The only thing that I see in the tech specs is a "webcam".  A webcam is the thing that takes still pictures and video of you, and is used for Skype and apps like that.  A camera (pointing the other way) is what takes pictures of everything else.

You obviously didn't understand the information before purchase.  Now you have buyer's regret.

    Sorry about that.

Trouble is you sometimes to not have tech specs when there is a shop's inviting ad (mentioned camera, not webcam)... As you say buyer's regret, but I still say the user manual specifically for the B-170 and the advert that encouraged me to buy were misleading.

You can't say that. Acer - in french user guide - write camera and describe how to take picture (not you but beautiful mountains) and record video. A webcam is for Skype, not for that.

I will not dispute your superiority in French.  If Acer said camera and explains how to take pictures of mountains  (Pyrenees I hope) they messed up and Redl would seem to have a legitimate complaint.  Return would be imminent if it was my choice.

Darn it, hit cancel instead of post! Still half asleep.

Read instructions in English, downloaded for easy reference and the section heading is definitely 'using CAMERA and camcorder' No mention of webcam.

But I have a more worrying problem ... Have used tablet 3 times ... getting it set up, trying to work out camera and checking emails and to see if I was imagining things, about 15-20 minutes a time. After each time I have felt sickly and headachey.  It has been suggested I adjust the brightness, but can't see that would cause the other effect ...tingling in my hands and forearms, leaving them feeling oddly weak.  Have used laptop, smartphone and ereader with no problems .. anyone else had this and does it ease?

Thanks for all the advice, everyone, I really appreciate it.

I have altered the brightness of the display on the tablet and that has certainly helped.

Re the Camera/Webcam confusion ... Acer say the user manual give details for the HIGHEST spec model ... odd that it claimed it  was specifically for the Acer Iconia B-170 which of course the one I have AND  the symbol on the apps says camera not webcam ... Which was what got me started on thinking I had a problem.
Fortunately I have a BIG handbag,so I can still get the camera in with the tablet (OH can carry the money so I don't need a big purse!)

I am slowly getting used to the tablet but with arthritic fingers not sure Iwillever be really proficient.

    Thanks again for the help.
