Hi there,

I would like to upgrade my Orion 7000 PO7 640 (now running i9 12900K and Nvidia RTX 3090) with the new RTX4090. Are the motherboard and case compatible? What else do I need to swap? Power supply I suppose?

Thanks!

The RTX-4090 is quoted to have a suggested 850W psu and the Orion 7000 has an 800 psu, that's the only thing that the Orion 7000 lacks to run an RTX-4090.

@StevenGen thank you Steve! And would you recommed this update? Is the computer able to take advantage of the full potential of 4090 or is there any bottleneck?

There should be no bottleneck issues with the 4090. The x16 slot nearest the CPU is 5.0, the one farther away is 4.0. The 4090 is 4.0 so should be able to do the same performance in both slots.

Guys, is that huge RTX4090 going to fit physically? :D what about the "IceTunnel". I think it would have to be removed...

Visit HERE and see the measurements of various 4090s. Then open your case and use measuring tape and voila! ^^ Keep in mind that those additional PCie power cables are often towards the side panel... and can cause a problem. That is, if the PSU has power enough and adequate cabling to begin with.

The shortest 4090s seem to be those more expensive water cooled ones. Those should fit lengthwise, but where to secure the radiator?
