Iconia W700 gets stuck after waking from sleep mode

Hello,

My Acer Iconia W700 (running standard Windows 8) gets stuck when I try to wake the device. The screen turns on, but I can't swipe up the picture to get to the password input/homescreen, the screen doesn't react to anything (The only way to get out of this situation is to hold power button and power it back on again (Everything works fine at the first boot)). I also tried removing the password security when waking up from sleep, this seemed to work, but the problem reappears after 2 times.

Is this a common problem, or is there a way I can fix it?

(If I can't fix it, I still have warranty, would it cover this problem? (Ofcourse I'd rather be able to fix it myself))

I'm looking forward to your replies!

Kind regards,

-Thatgrass.

It sounds more like a Windows issue than anything. I would suggest doing a refresh to eliminate any possible software issues. You can do this either by restarting the system from the login screen while holding shift, or by following these steps.

    To refresh your PC
    1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)

    2. Under PC settings, tap or click General.

    3. Under Refresh your PC without affecting your files, tap or click Get started.

    4. Follow the instructions on the screen.

    Scotty,

I can't refresh nor factory reset my pc without installation media. I do own these cd's, but I don't have an USB disk drive. Is there a waybto refresh/reset the pc without use of an installation disk?

    Kind regards,

Did you try the steps I outlined above? Usually Windows 8 does not need recovery media if you are able to get into the operating system.

Yes, I did try those steps, I've even tried to factory reset the whole system, but the device says that it needs some files located on the CD. So is there any other method to reset/refresh my device?

Can you try creating recovery media through windows onto a USB? I still find it odd that it's asking for media in the first place.

How to create the recovery media on an USB? Sorry, I am new to this kind of stuff.

In the recovery drive creator the option to copy the recovery partition (Size = 10 GB) remains grey. I am using a 16 GB USB flash drive (NTFS formatted/Enough space free). Manual copying gives in explorer an error: "FIle is too large" (But why? I have enough storage space!) and I tried copying with CMD, but fails too (error: "the parameters are incorrect, 0 files copied"). Is there anything I can do to make this work?

Have you tried a hard reset?

The is a pin hole in the side of the tablet immediately below the windows button. Use a thin piece of wire to depress the switch. This is like completely turning off the machine and doing a cold reboot, which the other methods cannot to.

Will this wipe all my data? And what is exactly a cold boot? Is this something simular to the refresh or the factory reset option in settings?

No, it's literally just like turning the unit off and turning it back on.

Thanks, tried it, but still didn't solve the problem. Copying content from cd to usb and plugging in, no luck. Maybe another tactic to get it working?

From the sound of it you're likely going to have to send the unit in for repairs. If you've owned it for less than 3 months you qualify for free pickup, I'd suggest taking a look into it. Sorry I wasn't able to help with your issue. If you ever have any questions feel free to get back to me.

    Take care,

    ScottyC
