Is my GPU dead or bad driver?

I have Nitro 5 AN515-45. I tried DDU, uninstalling/reinstalling drivers, formatting my laptop, downgrading to windows 10 but nothing seems to work. Installing latest drivers removes the yellow exclamation mark but still not getting detected in display/graphics option. And once restarted, yellow exclamation mark returns.

Nvidia Control panel doesn't open. GeForce is stuck on the express installation even after installing it, and it also doesn't respond to clicks on HOME, SETTINGS, or anything. Can't even check my account

GPU Z detects my card as shown in image above

GPU looks good. Drivers look bad. Maybe even Win10 install is now suspect.

    1. So, did you use the latest generic nvidia drivers? Or the latest ACER OEM nvidia drivers meant for the proprietary ACER mainboard?
    2. Are you using generic Microsoft Win10. Or the ACER OEM factory Win10?

I have tried almost everything. DDU, uninstalling/reinstalling drivers, bios update, downloaded drivers from Acer site etc. I installed windows 11 again since it wasn't the issue. Seems there is a bug from Nvidia side since 5 months, many are reporting issues after updating. Nvidia is doing nothing about it sadly

Did you re-install generic Win11 using Microsoft USB tool or the OEM Win11 from the hidden recovery partition?

I downloaded it from windows offical site. Can you tell me what makes you think my card isn't dead? I mean many people are reporting this issue after update but i still want to know. And does GPU Z detect dead GPU?

The GPU hardware is certainly not dead. The yellow Device Manager warning symbol means a software driver issue, NOT a GPU hardware issue.

Your official Microsoft generic Windows site installation is NOT the same as the official ACER OEM factory Windows installation from the hidden ACER OEM factory recovery partition.

Since you have already have installed the generic Windows version instead of the factory version, I suggest that the download and install iobit's Driver Booster freeware to see if it can find any better nvidia drivers on line that will work with your generic Windows version. If it doesn't work, we can try to load the ACER OEM factory Windows version though this is often blocked after the generic version has been installed.

So I went to the acer service center and they ran some tests thorough a acer offical diagnostic tool. Every test passed except SSD one. They tried with another SSD but the issue was still even though graphics test passed on their diagnostic tool. Can this be a bug in the driver provided by Nvidia?

Unlikely. The nvidia driver is actually specifically for the proprietary Acer mainboard available on the Acer download site. The driver on the nvidia download site is NOT the same driver even though it's for the same mobile GPU chip because the chip is being used in an Acer mainboard.

The problem is more likely the generic Microsoft Windows installation that uses generic nvidia drivers. The Acer OEM factory Windows installation is not the same. The OEM version was on a hidden recovery partition on the original SSD. It's accessed by turning the machine on and immediately pressing and holding the ALT key while tapping the F10 key. As mentioned earlier, access to this hidden factory recovery partition is sometime blocked by the generic installation. In this case, you can ask the Acer Service Center if they can provide you with an original ACER OEM factory Windows version on a USB installation flash drive. It may take them some time to try to locate an OEM factory USB installation flash drive.

Thanks for your replies. As i said, there are many people complaining about the same issue since yesterday on Nvidia forum. So why all of the sudden many people are getting this error 43? If its not bug then what is it? Its so annoying that Nvidia isn't responding to the users

Then you should be able to do a factory fresh OEM Win11 re-installation using the ALT+F10 cold boot method. If you temporarily disconnect from the internet to avoid automatic updates during the re-installation, the GPU should re-appear with the original factory drivers. Then you can turn on System Protection in Control Panel's restore point app, re-connect to the internet and see which errant Microsoft update is causing the issue and reverse the update.
