Model: PREDATOR ORION 5000 PO5-640

This machine was purchased last week from Laptops direct and I wanted to install some more ram. I purchased 4 sticks of Corsair Vengence DDR5 16GB to install.

I removed the heatsink to the CPU and removed the old ram installing the new ram. \\the total ram installed was 64GB the maximum allowable. I used all four DIMM slots. When I rebooted the machine it would make a loud beeping sound and then turn off. I tried to install only two sticks in the correct dim slots DIMM 1 &2 but the same error/beep would result.

I then installed the original ram in slots 1 and 2 but the PC would only boot windows and immediately then turn off unexpectedly.  This was caused by the heatsink not being attached reaching the heatsink allowed me to boot the machine and then upgrade the BIOS to the latest version A1. Upgrading the BIOS caused windows to fail to load. All attempts were made to repair the windows boot but failed. Including changing the boot sequence, windows would need to be re-installed - this is really not great.

The good news bios were up-to-date and reinstalled the new ram sticks one by one starting off with DIMM 1. CMOS was reset and this then allowed for the BIOS to recognize the new Ram and boot. Added another stick into DIMM2 but the bios could not recognize it. Tried all combinations as per the manual and FAILED!!

I then managed to get 32GB into the machine by installing the two sticks of 16GB into DIMM 1 and 3. The machine recognized and booted successfully.

Managed to add one more stick to 48GB into DIMM 3 but I could not get PC to recognize or accept the last DIMM 4 slot and I am left with an uneven 3 slot 48 GB machine or 32GB into slots 1 and 3. Every other slot combination fails. I believe the only workable slots are sub-optimal and I am not happy with this.

First time buying a gaming PC for work and I regret it already.

The worst thing is the heatsink connectors have come to lose and the fixing at the back of the motherboard has likely become unscrewed. I am guessing I will have to dismantle the entire PC just to get to these screws now.

ACER Support has been useless so far, asking to send an email. Still waiting!

NOTE: Original ram was installing slots 2 and \4 closest to the processor which I thought was odd. I also tried this combination and the PC could again make a beeping noise.

Any help would be appreciated, Ideally, I would like to set the machine up with 32GB or 64GB of ram. Optimal solution please guys.

  • Hi,

Could you please go to BIOS screen, move to Advanced tab and select "CPU and chipset configuration" check whether the "Extreme Memory Profile" is enabled, if it's turned off, turn it on and see whether it helps.

Just managed to take a look and XMP is disabled with no way to enable it. The option is present but you can not change the status.

  • Try creating a new Supervisor password(one you can remember or write it down) in Security tab, then try enabling XMP, once you finished don't forget to set the Supervisor password to the default password.

Still unable to make changes. Read somewhere 4 sticks of ddr5 just doesn't work. I would be happy to leave it at 32gb if the ram est on the correct dual channel dimm. Can anyone else confirm how they have their upgraded ram installed?

ok i have the po5-640-ub11... mine came with 2x8 gig of hynix ..i put them in slots 2 and 4....i was able to squeeze the low profile stock memory in slot 4 np without having to remove the cpu fan and whatever is underneath it..not sure what the metal is technically called lol... i did not want to mess with that lol...then i went to crucials site and ran there scanner and put 2x16 gig in the first and 3rd slot so i have all 4 slots filled... 16-8-16-8 or A-B-A-B according the the owners manual... i have 48 gig and it runs flawless and fast ..and it reads as 2000mhz and that's what it should when running quad band...if you runs 2 sticks it shows 4400 mhz and 4 sticks 2000 mhz. i called crucial and asked them etc...and thats why i did not wanna mess with corsair memory with the high profile and heatsink on it... figured it would be a disaster...and looks like it is ugh....if ya can return it get crucial... im gonna get another 2x16 and be maxed out asap...hope this helps

    OK, that sounds hopeful. I will try some more combinations tomorrow.......In the end;

Managed to get 32GB up and running now, in DIMM 3/4 which isn't the recommended slots. I am still not confident that the setup is ideal. I thought 1/2 were the main DIMMs to be used.

One thing that helped initially was resetting the CMOS which is a switch under the massive graphics card. I will leave the setup as it is for now.

One thing that still bugs me is why is max ram speed is 4000mhz and not 4400mhz there is no way I can change the XMP settings. Which is a real shame.

i get 4400 mhz when running 2 or 3 or 4 sticks.... it only shows 4400 mhz when running 2 because thats dual band... 4 is quad band and thats why 4 show 2000 mhz and i also ran 3 and it showed 2000 mhz ...do you think ya need to maybe just do a full factory reset...i dont go into the bios and mess with anything ...makes life much easier lol...and what did you do remove the cpu fan and the metal cooler underneath it ? and you should be able to get 2 sticks running in slots 1 and 3 which is dimm 1 and 2 odd how your running it..unless its the corsair memory...try the hynix or samsung that came with it again and see how that reads

Hey guys for all your input. Adding the original ram or new new corsair ram in dimm 1&2 does not work. The only combinations that's work are 2 or 3 sticks (32or 48gb) the issue is dimm 2. Or the 3rd slot. It's so strange. I am running 32gb and that's plenty.

Does any one else know how I can boost the speed back to 4400 or 4800mhz?

Also am I limiting pc performance by using dimm 2&4? These were the slots originally used by Acer.

    Thank you all.

well mine came with the memory is slot 1 and 3 or dimm 1 and 2.....and if dimm 2 isnt working send it back something must be defective ... or try and do a full factory reset is all i can think of then start over see if that helps or works..you only get 4400 mhz in the factory slots 1 and 3 and since your dimm 2 isnt working for whatever reason there is no way...how long have you had this pc ?

It sounds to me like you got one bad stick of memory. Contact your vendor and get it swapped for a good one. The speed drop is because the memory you purchased needs to have XMP enabled to run at full speed. It's base speed is much slower.

It's not the memory stick as I have tried multiple combinations. All sticks work.

I think it's more likely that motherboard defective and Dimm 2 is broken.

I just did the same thing, replaced the factory ram modules first with 2 16x2 Corsair Vengence DDR5 5200 MHz, ran fine with that playing Modern Warfare with XMP enabled, I then decided to add 2 more sticks 16gbx2 for a total of 64GB @ 5200 MHz, booted up just fine but then started having game crashes on MW afterwards. Disabled XMP and speed dropped down to 4400 MHz and the game ran fine after. Anyone have any ideas as to why my game freezes and crashes with XMP enabled?? Thanks!

XMP enabled with 32GB ram @5200 MHz, Modern Warfare ran fine with no crashes with memory speed at 5200 MHz, but when I added another 32GB(16gbx2), with XMP enabled, the game was crashing, disabled XMP and the game runs fine. With this motherboard not having any way to tweek the CPU or ram speed or frequency, it sounds like to me this board cant handle the maxed 5200 MHz ram speed without being able to tweek settings but Im not sure. Any ideas?

im sure nobody knows why... with ddr 5 memory being so new ....and how it ties into the games and software and hardware.....there may be no answer in this case...I've talked to tier 2 support from acer and they can't even answer questions i have...ide say ask corsair...i installed crucial so i called them and they know more than the acer techs do....not surprising though ...they should know more about their product....i have no issues with any of my games most that use corsair do though .... i have noticed .... glad i went with crucial .... lol anyways good luck ...keep us posted n tc....and yeah from all i have been told...and read its 4400 MHz no matter what... and that is odd they chose that ...because no ddr5 memory is below 4800 mhz.... its def a head scratcher that i gave up asking and trying to figure out...

Yeah its getting frustrating because for what I spent on this system, I want to push it to its limits but being a locked system, its impossible for that to happen.

what model did u buy? i have the PO5-640-UB11 from BestBuy...all i have done so far is memory and I'm fine with it but i do have 25 days left if i want to swap it out for something newer that doesn't limit us so much.... but in hindsight i don't think we need anything more than memory and maybe a better cooler for the CPU so im told lol
