Aspire 7 Touchpad not working Code 10

Model:N19C5

Device manager shows i2C HiD Device Error, code 10 Request for HiD descriptor failed.

Touchpad was working but then would stop after a Windows update particularly Defender. We found a workaround by uninstalling the I2C HiD device and restarting. This used to work but now does not. Can use external mouse but not suitable as son uses it predominantly for gaming.

We do have another laptop the same model which is fine, no issues.

What next, please help? Thanks.

    1. Open Control Panel. Search 'button'.
    2. Click 'change what the power buttons do' in left pane.
    3. Click 'change settings that are currently unavailable' near top of next pane.
    4. Scroll down and UNcheck box for fast startup.
    5. Then uninstall the i2C driver from DeviceManager like you did before. Exit and shut down Windows normally.
    6. Then turn back on again and immediately start tapping F2 key to enter BIOS menu. Press F9 to load BIOS defaults. Then Press F10 to save defaults and exit.

    Test touchpad again

    Hi JackE,

Thanks for your message and help. We've tried that and touchpad still not working and is no longer listed in Device manager \Human interface devices. Next steps??

  • What is the exact model? Example AN515-55-58VH.

    Hi Jack E,

Please see screenshots as requested. It did work for a short while following your suggestions but after the next shutdown again no. We tried repeating both suggestions given and still no joy sadly. Many thanks, Mandy.

    • * UPDATE - The model number is an Aspire A715-42G not a A715-72G, not sure if this makes any difference.

OK. Go to this link. Choose Win10 or Win11 whichever you have installed. Download both updated Synaptics & Elantech compressed zipfile drivers. Then press WIN+R. Enter 'msinfo32'. Expand components folder in left pane. Expand input subfolder. Click pointing device subfolder. See if you can find if the touchpad is Synaptics or Elan in right pane.

Then unzip the zipfile driver, In the unzipped folder, look for the SETUP.EXE file and double click on it to install. Test touchpad again. Press FN+F7 or reboot if necessary

Hi, thanks for response. Tried installing both drivers, repeated your earlier instructions too and still no joy.

Device is no longer showing in Device Manager at all since last uninstall and reboot.

OK. Shut down Windows normally. Turn machine back on and immediately tap F2 to enter BIOS menu. Please post phone photos of BIOS INFORMATION & MAIN tabs after pressing Ctrl+S in each tab.

  • Did your model come with windows 11 or 10? Have you tried JackE's suggestion?
