M.2 Not Recognized in BIOS

New Acer Aspire 5

Upgraded the RAM and M.2 drive, Installed a 1TB HDD. Most pieces from 5 YO Acer laptop, which was mechanically failing. Coming apart at the seams.

The good news the Aspire 5 sees the 16 MB of RAM, sees and boots from the HDD.

The bad news the Aspire 5 does not see the 240 GB M.2 drive in BIOS, hence it cannot boot from the M.2.

Seems this is a common problem but the YouTube videos do not cover the Acer laptops.

Yes checked M.2 installed correctly, hard to go wrong if the retaining screw installs correctly. That same M.2 works in other laptop.

So please suggestions to try in BIOS to get new Aspire working. Or whatever.

Final got the two laptops fixed, not exactly as intended but very good.

The new Aspire 5 has the OEM 120 GB M.2 and the 1TB HDD. The F12 option works so I can boot from either.

My original Acer has the 240GB M.2, 8MB RAM and no HDD.

  • What is the exact model? Example A515-55-58VH. Does the ssd show up in the bios info tab? Did you disconnect the lithium battery before installing the ssd?

I disconnected the battery the first time I tried, the M.2 did not show in BIOS then either. The second time when I installed the HDD and rechecked that the M.2 was installed correctly, I did not disconnect the battery.

    Thank you for the reply.
