In the Acer Care Center of my new  Aspire A515-45 there is no longer an option to limit battery charging to 80%. Can't find it in the BIOS, either. Has this option been removed or is there a way to enable it? Thanks. (Windows 11, AMD, BIOS 1.08)

The option to limit battery charging to 80% with Acer Care Center does work not on all machines. There is also no list for it. As far as I know this can not be set in the BIOS.

Thanks. Since you're a skilled specialist: does the 80% charging limit really increase battery life in a big way or is this just an urban myth from the 1990s?

In fact, for Li-Ion batteries, a state of charge of 40-80% is best. Deep discharge cycles and constant charging at 100% unnecessarily stresses the battery and lead to higher wear. Tesla, for example, recommends to charge the battery only up to 80% and to go to 90% only in exceptional cases. Since these batteries are much more expensive than batteries in smartphones and laptops, a long battery life is desirable. The charge of a smartphone battery is supposed to last the whole day, so it will be fully charged, and charging to 80% or maintaining the 40-80% rule is not practicable in this case. Therefore, to keep the battery healthy, charge and discharge regularly.
