Just received my new laptop a-515-45-r589 with windows 11
I would like to boot to my external cd rom or my external hard drive if I lose my
hard drive,
the problem is the bios is not seeing them
how can I get my bios to see them?
thank you

As long as your A515-45-R589 "Windows Explorer" sees the external drive (which it should) then don't worry about if the bios doesn't show USB drives, as that is common in all these laptops/PC's as you cant get access through the bios to any USB drives. Don't touch and/or update the bios unless the bios update title states that its specific to fixing external drives connections!

If your laptops boot drive crashes its best to get an excellent backup software called Macrium Reflect v8 that has a feature called “Adding a Boot Menu option for system Image recovery” where you periodically backup your Win-11 boot drive and all personal drives data, and then if ever your system crashes or can't boot you simply have the backup boot recovery Macrium backup drive with their boot feature (from when you boot your laptop) and you can connect the Macrium Reflect recovery backup drive and recover/restore your Win-11 exactly to where your backup was taken. Also and if you have problems and you have an external backup the only way to get into the bios and get any info from an external USB or drive connected to a USB is to use the Windows installation USB to get into the bios and to have direct access to the USB drives thorough that Advanced feature.

@Tmangels you can go into the BIOS, main tab, and enable the F12 boot menu. After the restart, quickly tapping F12 like going into the BIOS with F2
Please remember to include @AnhEZ28 when you want to reply back to my comment so that I can check your response.
Thank you and have a nice day!
