I was wondering if there was an upgrade to the motherboard on an aspire es13.
I know the cpu is soldered on to the board. The bios on mine are locked to the emmc, which makes the thing useless.
If I can swap the motherboard, it might be of some use other than a paper weight.

Regards

Might be possible if you can reveal the full model number series. For example, ES1-311?

Yes, you can get the 64GB mainboard.but usually not too practical (part no. NB.GG011.001) unless you can find a used or refurbished board on ebay.

Sometimes the trusted EFI file on the boot drive that the BIOS looks for can be changed to another internal drive. If you have a 2.5" HDD or SSD installed, please post a screenshot of the BIOS Security tab with secure boot enabled.

If the problem you're having is with Windows updates, the 32GB emmc boot disk usually needs to have a 16GB NTFS formatted SD card inserted to provide enough space for temporary files  needed to complete the update, especially if it's a major update.

Thanks. I think we've spoken before about the emmc problem on this board.
    Thanks again.

    Thinking about it.
Does this have an emmc chip, are the bios locked to the chip and what is the laptop model no.

Yes, it has the emmc chip only bigger than your's but exactly the same BIOS. That's why I suggested that If you also have a 2.5" HDD or SSD installed, post a phone  photo of the BIOS Security tab with secure boot enabled.  That way we can tell if it's locked.

It is we spent several weeks going through all the options to try and unlock the bios. I was trying to either duel boot with Linux or change to a Linux os. It will only see a windows os on the emmc and nothing else.
I was wondering if there was another motherboard that would fit the laptop that doesn't have the bios locked to windows.

No, the only way to see if it's locked is if there is another 2.5" HDD installed. You cannot dual boot Linux on any emmc drive and mainboard that fits this case because there is not enough room without also having a 2.5" HDD installed.  Did you install a 2.5" HDD? If not, we can't tell if the BIOS is truly locked.
