You are correct, that is the right machine and GPU. I just tried several of the drivers from that link (including the June 15th) but they all come back with the same error.

Not good. If you haven't done so already, try a battery disconnect by shutting the machine off, unplugging the charger, and gently inserting and pressing a paperclip into the battery disconnect pinhole on the bottom for about a minute. Then plug the charger back in and try installing June 15th again.

I hadn't tried that yet. Just did, same result with the driver installation.

Something to note, I seem to be able to trick the nvidia drivers into installing if I add a legacy device (using device manager) and tell it to emulate the correct gpu. The nvidia driver will actually install after, but then when I try to go to nvidia control panel it says there isn't any matching hardware. Also in device manager the new device will always have the yellow warning symbol, and shows the hardware location as "unkown". It felt like progress trying this but it seems to be a dead end, so I uninstalled the device.

Do any of these mean anything?

Two ways to rule in or rule out a fried nvidia chip. The quick way  --- temporarily change the BIOS mode from UEFI to legacy to see if the BIOS recognizes the chip in the Information tab. The slow way --- a factory OEM Windows system reset from the hidden reset partition.

Might be. Post screenshot upon opening Device Manager. Don't manually expand any folders.

I tried switching to legacy but the BIOS didn't provide any GPU info in the information tab.

Here is the device manager screenshot. The first is default and the second has  "show hidden devices" enabled.

    >>> Factory OEM Windows system reset from the hidden reset partition >>>

Lastly, I'm not entirely sure how to accomplish this task, I searched online but found mixed results. Could you provide some steps?

I was wrong before, I checked the BIOS in legacy mode again and it shows
    "VGA BIOS Version: Intel v1045"

Would this mean the Nvidia chip is fried?

Might be with an estimated ~90% probability. A factory OEM reset would confirm it with ~99% probability.

If you want to try the reset, check BIOS MAIN tab to make sure the D2D option is enabled. F10 to save settings and exit. Then shut down the machine. Follow these steips.

    (1) Turn machine on and immediately press and hold ALT key while tapping F10 key.
    (2) An Acer factory OEM reset screen should appear to allow either a factory reset while trying to save your personal files --- or --- the preferred erase everything  clean factory reset that should return the Windows system to the original, fresh out of the box state when you first acquired the machine. In either case, you really should back up personal files to a USB stick or some other way.
    (3) Whichever you decide to choose, press the FN+F3 wifi toggle key combo to disable wifi so no automatic updates can happen. Just skip any steps that require wifi be turned on. Sometimes skipping steps is not straightforward because of Microsoft's (and Acer's) penchant for collecting personal info and trying to sell you on Microsoft products during the reset process.

If the reset confirms the fried nvidia chip, there are still some (rather drastic) ways of trying to salvage the mainboard if you just gotta have the nvidia GPU. If that fails, new replacement mainboards are available for about $250usd if you're willing to wait about 4 weeks for delivery on a slow boat.

If you are using Windows 10, you do not need any "Driver Easy" or other applications to download drivers, because by going to the menu item "Windows Settings" - "Windows Update" and clicking on the item "View optional updates" you can install and update everything drivers for the laptop.
Regarding nvidia drivers, Windows does not always update them to the latest version, so JackE's recommendation is optimal at the moment.

p.s. Well, or go to the official page of the Acer Aspire VX5-591G model https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/support-product/7094?b=1 to support and download all the necessary drivers

Thanks for your help, seems the GPU is just fried.
Ended up building myself a desktop PC, this aspire was getting old anyway.

    Sure, I went with:
    CPU: Intel i7 12700k
GPU: Zotac GeForce RTX 3060 TI
    MB: MSI Tomahawk Z690
    Cooler: Noctua NH-D15
    PSU: Corsair RM850x
    RAM: 2 x 16GB Patriot Viper Elite II DDR4 3200MHz
SSD: Samsung 870 EVO 1TB (already had this one, working well so far)
    Case: Corsair 465x
    Extra Fans: Corsair SP120 x 3

Working very well so far, it's a huge upgrade in terms of performance over the aging laptop. A bit overkill in some areas for what I usually play, but I'm hoping that will mean no need to upgrade for a while, except for more hard-drive space

Microsoft & Intel are working hard on dashing your hopes right now. By 2024 --- Win12's planned debut  Probably require 15th gen ArrowLake CPUs to run. :)
