Veriton N2620G - Changed to AHCI, now wont boot even to BIOS

Hi All,

As per the subject title.

Brand new "out the box" Acer Veriton N2620G.

Wanted to change the On Board Sata from Native IDE to AHCI.

Allowed me to make the change in the BIOS on very 1st boot, but when I saved and rebooted the PC, absolutely nothing happens.

The monitor connected to the PC is not even recognising that it's connected.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Bob

    Hi Vanderetto,

I would have expected it to Blue Screen with code 7B if it were to boot after making that change.

But you say now you get nothing at all.......eek.

I would be tempted to take out the one screw and take the top off to remove the BIOS battery for a minute, plug it back in and power up again.

In fact I think you may find a little jumper with a blue shorting pin for clearing the CMOS/BIOS also.

Okay, I'll give that a try.

    I have nothing to lose!!!

    Thanks.

    Hi,

Unfortunately that has made no difference.

I'm connecting to a DVI Acer monitor.

As soon as the PC powers on, the light on the monitor changes from blue to orange and stays blank.

    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Bob

Sounds like a DOA to me.

I think you may well need to telephone Acer (or the shop you bought it from) and ask for a replacement.

You were always using the same cable to connect to the monitor and it worked before okay ? If so I think you have a Dead-On-Arrival computer.

    Yes, same cable.

As it happens, it's done the same with 3 out of a batch of 20 I have had delivered, so it looks like there's a faulty batch in circulation.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

    Hi,

Same thing just happened to me, booted fine, rebooted, went into bios to change boot order and now nothing, just the white light.

Did you find a solution or did you send it back?

    Thanks,

    Walter.

Try disconnecting all data & power leads from the drives and remove the keyboard & mouse. Remove & reseat any memory modules. (Make sure power is disconnected before doing any of this). See if it will power up after that. If it does, start reconnecting each device in turn & test after each step.

Incidently, I've known a few PC's (not Acer) for no apparent reason go into a locked down state & not work until the CPU was removed & reinstalled.

So glad someone else is having this issue as well, I have a batch of 10 to set up, issue has occured on 3 of them, I already have one that has been returned twice, which I haven't tried again yet.  By the sounds of it, they will all be going back.

Just to say I have had the case open, have tried rebooting with the momory out, and with the CMOS battery disconnected, and tried jumping the pins to re-se the BIOS, with no joy, so this PC will be going back.

Just to add to the list, we have a batch of 40 N2620Gs. We have configured about 15 and four of those suffered from this problem. If any one has a fix that does not involve voiding the warranty I would very pleased to hear it.

We have had another one lock up even though we did not alter the SATA setting.

We changed the AC restore setting and saved just that and had the unit brick.

Perhaps it is the act of saving the settings that causes the problem.

The issue doesn't seem consistent, like you I am configuring quite a few of the PC's.  I have tried only changing the power setting and the PC bricked.  I now have 5 with issue's, that won't start back up.  I have requested a return, so 5 PC's will be going back to Acer.  But if anyone else does resolve the issue without having to return, please let me know.

Just an update, I sent 5 of the PC's off for repair.  I have now received them all back, they all had their motherboards replaced, I have imaged 3 so far, and made changes to the BIOS, and so far the PC's are still stable.
