Current specification

Processor: i7-12700K
RAM: 32GB DDR5
SSD: 1TB Samsung NVMe (PM9A1) PCIe 4.0x4
Graphic Card: nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 (10GB)
Motherboard: OEM by Acer (anyone has more details on the board? In most cases this is the biggest bottle neck)
Power: OEM by Acer approx. 800W (seems quite low for this graphic card and processor)

Display:
Samsung Odyssey G9 (5120x1040) at  240Hz

Could you share any thoughts on how I can customise and improve it?

I would like to provide some additional info which will really help you.

Kindly go through the details given below.  The info provided below will be very helpful to get the current memory and ssd details of your computer and the options to upgrade it.

Please visit the website given below.  There is an option to  "start your scan "  and " select your computer " .  Please chose the options and try it.  It will show you the memory and SSD’s details and the best upgrade options for you..

It will tell you what you currently have and what you can add for memory and SSD's.

Note: If you decide to buy you can always compare the prices by visiting other websites or stores and then you can decide.  We are providing the info of scan app just to show you the upgrade options.  You can even download similar scan apps from other memory upgrade websites too.

To check the compatibility of ram which you can use on your computer.. Get CPUz and check it with that in SPD section of all the RAM and specs that you have, its a quick and simple way to check all OEM specs and what you have in your system.

    Oh hello!

Do you already have this unit or are you only thinking about getting one? To me the specks look pretty good as they are now. Would you like to share how much the store/reseller is asking for it? Now that the GPU prices are finally coming down, you might be able to build a more powerful PC for less, but that naturally depends on where you live.

    About upgradability.
You could buy a faster M.2 SSD drive, but although the gains in some benchmarks are quite big, maybe even almost double, a faster M.2 drive won't make that much of a difference in real life (i.e. boot and loading times). Not worth it if you ask me... but nice to have.

The PC has plenty of RAM already. 32Gb should be more than enough for most task and gaming.

Not sure if the PSU will be enough for 4080 or higher thou. So that might be a problem in the future, if you plan on keeping this PC for a long time. Maybe you can upgrade the PSU in the future.

The only real question mark for me is the adequacy of the cooling and possible fan noise. Fans can always be replaced, but really good ones cost real money. Hmm? If you have the unit, check if there are any empty places for additional case fans.

I afraid this workstation is not listed there. Did not find any recommendations for Orion 7000. Btw.  it's not really RAM or SDD I'm interested in. More performance, cooling oriented. Whether anyone upgraded already to 1200W or double fan water cooling, etc. is the motherboard ***** and better to upgrade straight away to some aftermarket one, etc.

If it is still not working then we have to do a refresh and reset

click on start - settings - update and security - recovery - reset this pc - get started

    or

on start - type here to search - type reset this pc - click on reset this pc on the top  - click on get started

login to computer and start using the computer.
If it is still not working

click on start - settings - update and security - recovery - reset this pc - get started
    chose remove everything
click on local reinstall - just remove my files - click on reset
    It will be in progress

    Note:

If you do refresh ( keep my files ) -  all your personal files like pictures, music , documents , videos  will still be intact.   Only the applications will be lost

If you do reset  ( remove everything )  - you are doing a factory default.   It will become like a day one computer.    It will wipe out everything and take your computer to day one like a new computer.

You can also do the recovery in an alternative way..

There are two alt keys on the keyboard.  If you look at the bottom row of keyboard you can see the one on the left side of space bar and the other on the right side of space bar.  The alt key on the right side will be looking like alt, alt gr or alt car.  Turn off the computer.  Hold the alt key on the left and tap f10 continuously.   It will go to repair mode.  It will show you chose an option, continue, troubleshoot.   If it is not going to repair mode, turn off the computer.  Turn on the computer.  Hold the right alt key ( alt gr or alt car or alt )  and then tap f10 continuously.  It will go to chose an option continue and troubleshoot..

It will show you chose an option, continue, troubleshoot
Go to troubleshoot  -  click on reset this pc
click on keep my files  ( only applications will be lost )   chose your account and type your password   - click on local reinstall  - click on reset
    It will be in progress

If the keep my files option is not working

Go to troubleshoot  -  click on reset this pc – click on remove everything – click on local reinstall – just remove my files – click on reset
    It will reinstall windows.

If the just remove my files is not working..

Go to troubleshoot  -  click on reset this pc – click on remove everything – click on local reinstall – Fully clean the drive – click on reset
    It will reinstall windows.

Note: You can also go to chose an option , continue , troubleshoot by holding the alt key + tapping f10  or alt gr + tapping f10 on the keyboard while turning on the computer.    Once you see the troubleshoot option, you can stop tapping the f10 and stop holding the alt key.    Then you can try the keep my files and remove everything ( just remove by files and fully clean the drive ) by following the steps which was mentioned above.

Yes, there isn't a lot of room for improvement over the stock specs. What are you seeing so far with CPU and GPU temperatures? There are likely cooling upgrades you can do, but they might not be really needed...

    SSD: 1TB Samsung NVMe (PM9A1) PCIe 4.0x4
Graphic Card: nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 (10GB)

Power: OEM by Acer approx. 800W (seems quite low for this graphic card and processor)

    Display:
    Samsung Odyssey G9 (5120x1040) at  240Hz

Could you share any thoughts on how I can customise and improve it?
What are you going to use this desktop for and how much do you want to spend and to what upgrade level do you want to go to? As this desktop is a high gaming system already. The only thing that you can upgrade is the RAM and M.2 drives (without changing the mobo to a higher spec) as the i7-12700K CPU is pretty high end gaming CPU that has a max memory size capacity of 128GB (run the Crucial System Scan) as that will tell you exactly what spec RAM this system will run at a total of 128GB RAM capacity into its slots and if the Intel specified RAM of the i7-12700K CPU can run at either DDR5 4800 MT/s or the up to DDR4 3200 MT/s as I know that Acer quotes 64GB max but the CPU can run 128GB and in most cases the 128GB can be run which Crucial memory specifies. Otherwise its just a matter of cooling for the games and applications that you will be running and if this desktop overheats? If it does, then improve the case ventilation with either Noctua or be quite fans. Have a look at the Acer Predator Orion 7000 PO7-640 (2022) Review as this review will tell you everything that you want to know about the PO7=640.

@StevenGen Thx! This is very helpful. At the moment Sim Racing + VR plus video editing. It's not that I have to complain over anything, seems to be a solid set.

I was hoping someone has already more experience with it and swapped for example the mother board which would support faster RAM, improved cooling to double or bigger fan set, sth that is proven to work better than OEM. It's more of a brain picking attempt from my side. I know it's not a custom PC and therefore has it's limitations (plus the RAM is simply ugly...of course doesn't mean I need ARGB on everything  ) But looking for additional ideas how to improve it.

I can already see that I need additional M2 drive and/or sth I can stick into the 2.5" USB-C case that comes with the workstation. Not sure I can stick there an M2 with some adapter or maybe it's better to go with some Samsung 2.5 SSD drive.

The article you sent me is awesome. A lot of useful information there, unfortunately I have the i7 and not i9 version. Didn't find any proper reviews of my config which made me worried a bit.

Not a problem but, with gaming and especially editing the ram capacity amount, the sky is the limit as the more the better. Upgrading and building a PC depends on the hardware specs that you have, as you cant put faster ram and/or a faster cpu if the mobo can handle these higher spec components, which the PO7-640 mobo has potential to do. This desktop has an excellent cpu/gpu combination and an 800w psu that is adequate to handle all power requirements.

With the motherboard you can upgrade the Orion 7000 PO7-640 atx to one of the best 12th Gen motherboards out there like the "ASUS ROG Maximus Z690" that ASUS recommend, Max. 128GB, DDR5 6400+(OC)/ 6200(OC)/ 6000(OC)/ 5800(OC)/ 5600(OC)/ 5400(OC)/ 5200(OC)/ 5000(OC)/ 4800MHz Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory* Dual Channel Memory Architecture and that this mobo will give you some extra bios adjustments (which won't be that much more than the PO7-640 atx mobo will) but can handle faster ram and can be overclocked much more.

With what you have spent on the Orion 7000 PO7-640 like £3,299,00 (USD $4118.14) plus all the upgrades that you are going to spend, you could of built a much superior spec desktop for that sort of money! Btw, with the cpu, you can upgrade the PO7-640 to the 12th Gen i9 on this desktops mobo anyway, with the ram its the same and with the fans, the best case fans are the Noctua fans as they are far superior to anything on the market for both noise output and air extraction, with the water cooling the sky is the limit as you can go crazy and do dry ice type cooling etc etc as it depends how far you want to go?

OP, before doing any CPU or motherboard upgrades, I'd wait until the 13th gen Intel processors are out. Why? 13th gen CPUs are supposed to use the same LGA 1700 socket as 12th gen.

If the performance uplift is worth the money (ie. cost of new mobo and CPU, possibly even faster RAM) only then I'd make any upgrades. Until then I'd just enjoy the beast of a system you have now.

@Stevengen thx, this mobo does sound like a proper base. I spent much less for it so do have some budget left for upgrades. What PSU would you recommend? Corsair Thor 1200W to match the ROG series? Think I can fit a 120mm 3 fan cooling inside such as the iCUE?

Those temperature numbers look pretty good right now. Give the system some more time before deciding if they need to be any better. And don't hold your breath on 13th gen CPUs dropping into a 12th Gen motherboard, likely the 13th gen chipset will be needed, as in almost every other generation Intel has done over the last 15 years or so...

Ok, and I have one more question.
I have a pci express expansión with m2 from other computer.
The problem I see is the pcix16 is hide, because the graphic card (3090) is over there.
Is there any solution to use it?
    Thanks in advance.

You have the two PCIe x16 slots, the GPU should only take up one of those. Most M.2 expansion cards require at least PCIe x4 or x8, so that x16 slot should work fine for yours.

Hi, I have another question. I have searched to upgrade RAM, but the speed I'have found is 4800Mhz. Is it compatible?

    DDR5 DRAM VENGEANCE de 32 GB (2x16 GB) a 4800 MHz C40
