Hello:

Just purchased Acer Swift 3 SF314-43-R2YY  with Ryzen 7 5700U processor.
Its got the Bios version v1.02

The Issue is that the Bios will not see any Bootable USB Flash Drive higher that USB 2.0, looks like.

I am trying to boot Linux -- ArchLinux.

I manually format it with GPT & an EFI partition, then root/swap partitions, etc.

But the BIOS just does not see it. I tried Sandisk Ultra 32gb/63gb sticks.. usb 3.0/3.1 both usb type-A & type-C.

What am I missing here ?? Pls advise. Thank you

Do you have both the Boot Menu enables and Secure Boot disabled in the BIOS? Without both you should not be able to boot from any foreign device. With them changed as suggested you should be able to see any EFI bootable device when using the F12 boot menu.

The first line is UEFI.. which can not be disabled.
The Second line is Secure Boot, which has been disabled.

the Next line is the Windows manager.
Then the USB drive would appear after, but only for like the Lexar Jumpdrive USb 2.0

I went thru the Bios pretty carefully & did not see where Boot menu can be enabled.
    Pls advise. Thnx

Can you post a picture from the Main Section of the BIOS?

What tool are you using for creating bootable USB? Rufus sometimes doesn't create fine bootable media. For Linux distros I recommend balenaEtcher.

    Hello:

I misspoke.. yes I have ensabled F12 button.
But even using that, the USB 3.0 drive does NOT show up in the Boot list, coz its not visible in the Bios.

I created the Bootable USB in linux Env from my Old Laptop, using fdisk/parted.

    so I tried the following:

    From the Old Latop:

    1. I booted Arch Linux LIVE USB.

    2. on Both the USB 2.0 & USB 3.0 drives: Lexar & Sandisk Ultra
        a. Put GPT, then EFI with FAT32
        b. created additional partitions /root, /swap, /home
        c. installed Arch linux
        d. installed /boot/efi Boot Loader.

    3. Then on the New Swift 3 laptop:

USB 2.0 Drive was visble in Bios & be able to Boot from it

USB 3.0 Drive was NOT visible in Bios.

Are there Specific USB 3.1/3.2 models that I should be using ??

    Thnx !!

I believe on your system the Boot Menu is on the Main tab as "F12 Boot Menu". Make sure it's enabled and F12 should give you the correct list of bootable devices during POST.
