AN515-54 NVME or SATA SSD?

Currently I have an NVME SSD and a SATA HDD installed, I still have another M.2 slot available. If I'm about to replace the HDD, should I get a SATA SSD to replace its slot, or should I get another NVME SSD to put into the free M.2 slot and just have the 2.5" slot empty? I'm currently fixated on a certain SATA SSD because at the price it has DRAM, TLC, and reputable reviews over the years (Crucial MX500)

Concerns:
1. Which has higher temperature when gaming, SATA SSD or HDD? My current HDD has 45ish degree Celcius when playing games (give or take 3 degrees), I think the max temp it's ever had is 50 C
2. What are the benefits of SATA SSD over NVME SSD apart from a slightly cheaper price?
3. My NVME SSD has 33-35 C temperature when gaming so if I install another NVME SSD next to it, will it affect the temperature of both SSDs?

@ynwa1227 since you cannot find an M.2 SATA, you can get a 2.5 Inch SATA SSD instead.

@ynwa1227 if you want to install another SSD for the empty M.2 slot, you can choose either NVMe or SATA SSD (SATA SSD has 2 form factors that are M.2 and 2.5Inch). The SATA SSD will output less heat than the HDD since there are no moving parts (a couple of degrees). NVMe can output much more heat than the SATA SSD(55-65 Celcius) during the heavy read/write stage.
SATA SSD will use less power than the NVMe SSD. They can be for any laptop model that has their M.2 SATA interface support only.
For the temperature of two M.2 SSDs, you will not notice much difference because the fan will run faster than the normal state so that it can cool both SSDs.

I recommend you to use an M.2 SATA SSD for better cooling.

My NVME is only 35 C max when gaming like I said, but I don't know if putting another SSD in the M.2 slot next to it would affect and increase its temperature since it's always been alone all this time. And M.2 SATA isn't really a thing in my country, nobody really sells it, at least non from the reputable brands..

@ynwa1227 I see, then you can install another M.2 NVMe or 2.5-inch SATA SSD. Another M.2 slot doesn't really affect the temperature.

  • I've seen some reports, that when the user install two nvme ssds, the fans speed up a lot. If this happens, the only solution is to install a heatsink on the pch.

for real? i thought the gpu/cpu chips are far from the m.2 slots..

@ynwa1227 yes, he is right. The PCH chip is this bare chip in the middle of the board
I think the reason for this is because that chip needs to work more on handling two NVMe drives so it heats up more. Most laptop manufacturers tend to leave this chip alone without having a heatsink so the fan will speed up more like you enable the coolboost, but takes a long time to slow down especially when you open the games or update the game file on the newly added drive.
The solution is to add a heatsink to that chip so that it can cool better.

So it would be ok if the other one is M.2 slot is SATA? In any case, this gives me more reason to just get a 2.5" SATA xD
