Why does my microphone not work? r Aspire ES 11 (ES1-132-C5UF

Welcome,

I have an Acer Aspire ES 11 (ES1-132-C5UF). I tried to get my microphone to work but to no avail. I was using a stripped down version of Windows 10 so I figured out that it might be a driver issue. I installed Realtek drivers but that did not work. I, then recently, got in contact with a techy friend who recommended to download the correct drivers to my model. That, unfortunately, did not work. Please help me resolve this because the in-built mic is trash and I really need to use my mic for online class.

Thank you in advance,

A stripped down Windows version likely doesn't have the needed system library files like dlls to work properly with the proprietary ACER OEM drivers.  You need to re-install Windows preferrably using the ACER OEM version. If not, then the generic version using Microsoft's USB media creation tool.

Hi sir. Thanks for commenting. My pc is really laggy in the normal windows build. That's why I did the stripped down install in the first place.

Shouldn't be laggy if it has at least 4GB RAM, NO non-Mic rosoft scanners are installed especially when running a browser like Chrome or Edge. FireFox is preferred. The fully loaded ACER OEM Win10 version should otherwise be quite fast.

Again, thanks for replying. I tried using a normal version of Windows. But it was quite laggy. It has only 2 gb ram... So what can I do to get my microphone working again?

Aye!!! This is the problem!. It takes almost 2GB RAM just to load the desktop. This leaves essentially no RAM leftover for loading programs, apps or browser. So it has to use the HDD or emmc drive to simulate RAM which is extremely slow.

Try this. Open the RAM door on the bottom cover. Wee if you have a replaceable RAM socket with a 2GB module installed. Some mainboards didn't have this replaceable RAM socket so it couldn't be upgraded. Post a phone photo with the door open if possible.

Wouldn't that mean I should buy DDR3 L memory? Also it seems like it has a replaceable ram module.

Did you actually open the door to see if it has a 2GB RAM DDR3L sodimm module installed? A phone photo would be helpful.

It is my mum's lap and I know she will kill me if I open it up.

What if she finds out that you might've removed some Windows system files that the Realtek drivers depend on for mic functionality?

You are already using your headset mic or standalone mic.

When you plug in your headset, it should ask you what device did you plug in --- select headset or mic in. If there is no prompt, then go to realtek audio console or realtek hd audio manager to select headset or mic in.

    That's it.

Lightly tap your headset mic or external mic, if any of the mic signal meter jumps, then you are using your external mic. They are not separate items, they are usually lump with the laptop's internal mic array.

    Standalone mic. It doesn't work.

You can't  use a wired stand-alone mic in this laptop's combination input/output audio jack. The mic's plug barrel tip and ring don't match the connectors inside the jack like they used to in older laptops with separate mic and headphone jacks.
