Hi, i own Acer nitro AN515-54 RTX2060 I5 9300H laptop, and i want to buy an 34inch ultrawide monitor, so i have a question, when i buy an 3440x1440 monitor, it will affect my performance in games heavily? Also how the resolution works? If i have 3440x1440 monitor can i change the resolution to use it to 2560x1080(i know i will lose quality of screen but maybe it will run much smoother)? I think laptop will handle the 2560x1080 with no problem but i wonder what will happen when i plug in the 3440x1440 monitor.
Thanks for help

I don't know the exact model number monitor that you are talking about? But most of the high end monitors these days are a great extension to improve a laptops resolution and especially scope of view, The RTX-2060 is more than capable of handling the resolutions that you are describing above. Also all these high end monitors come with suitable HDMI cables that can handle those resolutions and should work as one of the limiting factors is also the cable. Also see this guide "How to add a monitor to your laptopand 3 ways to connect an external monitor to a laptop with Windows 10 as explaining all this to you here is just too long and you need to make sure that you have the external monitor setup correctly within Windows 10 or 11 for the external monitor to work to its full potential.

Im planning to buy samsung g5 or xiaomi BHR4269GL or something in similiar budget, so you said that my laptop will handle those with no problem? My tv works good by hdmi but its 1920x1080 only.

@Kubaolk the overall performance will increase when you use an external monitor because it connects to dGPU directly rather than passing through iGPU. You can still play games in 1440p but will have a little FPS reduction compared to 1080p.

Ok, but can i reduce the resolution in terms to get some performance if it will be needed, for example 3440x1440 to 2560x1080? How it will look on screen?

@Kubaolk I don't have a 1440p screen but you can lower the screen resolution to get higher FPS. 1080p might be a bit blurry on a 1440p monitor than on a 1080p native monitor.
