Hi!

I was wondering if someone could help me to know exactly what to buy when it comes to hard drives. I don't know anything about laptops and I don't know if for my laptop there something specific that I can get, idk like inches or or weight or whatever. The speed on this laptop is perfectly fine and it runs games in a way that is perfect for me. But it suffers from lack of storage and temperature. I've heared that if you put a new hard drive it would get not only bigger in storage but also low the temperatures due to not relaying on one hard drive (the one that came with the computer)

So what should I get? a hdd? a ssd? can I do both ? Is it gonna help with storage and temperature?

this is what I got:

Device's name: LAPTOP-IFF0GT3P
Processor: 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-11400H @ 2.70GHz   2.69 GHz
RAM installed: 16.0 GB (15.8 GB utilizable)
Device's ID 4D17B027-D735-4597-84E8-2763F9DABB23
Product ID 00325-97250-65557-AAOEM
System type: Sistema operativo de 64 bits, procesador x64

(sorry it was in spanish)

Pls help :(?

The M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 SSD drives are the best for the 11th Gen CPU’s, in my opinion the Samsung 980 Pro MCL M.2 SSD Solid State Drive VNAND MZ-V8P or WD SN850 black is what I would use. Acer uses WD SN series M.2 drives as OEM on their latest gaming laptops and they are good but, the Samsung M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0 x4 drives are better and more reliable in my opinion as I've used them for many years

@Mangokhan if you need to store the games, you can either use 2.5 Inch SATA SSD or M.2 2280 NVMe SSD. The NVMe is mostly faster than SATA SSD but won't have much difference in games loading or performance. Get 512GB or 1TB depending on your budget. For the high-temperature problem, you can switch on CoolBoost or use a laptop cooler.

@Mangokhan for HDD, those good models I can recommend you are Seagate Barracuda or Firecude. WD blue or black. Toshiba.

    1. SSD - if 120 GB and below, use it for OS only; if 200 GB and above make partition of 120GB for Windows and rest for other apps that need fast access, like games.
    2. HDD - Depending on size, partition, load items that need faster access to partitions you create first and files accessed less and smaller size ones to later partitions.

Below are my disks and how I partitioned them. Remember, system performance depends on just on disks, but also on how they are optimized for usage.

This is what I got, do you think is ok?
  • Regarding storage, you will have to tell us which video card model your laptop came with. Depending on the video card model, your model may have come with two m2 2280 gen4x4 slots or with only one gen3x4 and another gen4x4 slot, see:

This model supports 1tb ssd or more, see:

    For temperatures, check this table:

So in that case could get a SATA Seagate barracuda 2tb hdd of 2.5 inches? Would it work?

I would like to get an SSD but for my earnings is too expensive. A friend told about all of these for storage and he recommended that I should get a 2tb hdd so can put everything about games there, so I can leave my original disk empty (well with the original files from the laptop). Every document from work or university I normally put in google drive. Do you think his idea is good?

  • I would opt to buy a 2.5" sata 3 ssd!
