i tried installing linux(1st ubuntu, then mint and then pop os) becoz i am done with windows. on the installation page, the linux installer couldn't detect the hard drive present on the pc(i freed around 100gb storage for linux). checked some forums, then disabled fastboot, secure boot in bios, change SATA from RAID to AHCI, still no sucess. it happened with all the distros. can anybody guide me on this?
feel free to ask any other info if needed.
please help. pop os looks so good.

Yes, most of the Linux installers have problems with detecting sdb or HDD1 boot drives. Can you see sdb and mount sdb when you run gparted from the usb stick?

no. it only detects my usb drive, and my external hard drive(465 gb) not the internal hard drive where i want linux to be installed. any workaround???
i heard acers are not good for linux is that true? /dev/sdb2 is my external hard drive. i just plugged it to check wheather it is detected or not.

Probs Intel vmd  / RST has control of the drive. If you check the bios, hit cntrl + s on the main tab are there any options to change the drive mode , sata mode , or vmd controller?

If it's still set to ahci, open a terminal window and type dmesg , there will be something about the drive in there maybe

If you can't open a terminal, hit cntrl alt f2 and use that one

Does another distro like Ubuntu do the same?

Try this. Boot again from the USB and run gparted from it. Then press the power button to put the laptop to sleep. Then hit any key to wake it up. What do you see when you press the gparted down arrow now?

    1. dmesg shows a lot of data about the pc, even the usb drive with s.no. and company but not the internal hard drive.
    2. yes. tried ubuntu, mint, pop os. all having same problem. the problem seems to be acer specific. giving up the idea of using linux for now, and never going to buy acer from now on.

well, this trick worked, i was able to install pop os on my laptop but when it installed completely, i lost ability to access my bios menu. and when i tried booting into pop os, it gave me error something like (modules not found) which had no solution on the internet. a final try to another os by this trick(sleep) and lets see what happens.

This is what I needed to know. If this sleep mode trick works, there is a workaround to modify grub configuration so it will boot properly. The ubuntu forums have published this mod.

The sleep mode trick works, however after installation, your initial ramdisk will not detect the internal storage and the boot process will be halted.

The Arch wiki has a solution for it: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Laptop/Acer#Known_Issues
