Ferrari recovery disks

I picked up an old Ferrari 5000 that has a cracked screen and a dead drive. I installed a used drive, and reloaded Vista using the key on the bottom of the case. I was getting the laptop ready to be used with a tv as the monitor for streaming shows. I get a message today that says the key cannot be validated. Is it possible to pick up a recovery set for this system from Acer? I was going to chat but the system has to be in warranty for that. This one is well out of warranty.

Buddy, nine years ago somebody who knew what he was doing designed that monster you own. In its day, it outclassed just about everything else. Usually selling at $2400 US, it had a high-end model that sold for $5,000 US. At that time, two gigs of RAM was a lot of muscle, and I wonder if you've upgraded to the maximum four gigs. And to further improve an already-great machine, it is designed to port into a TV set.

You stated that "today" the Windows key couldn't be verified. How long had you been runnng it? Obviously, the message popped up while you were on the web; did MS disable your OS after sending you the message?

    Anyway, here's two suggestions:

If you can run XP for a while without MS shutting you down, the Windows key is hidden in the BIOS. Depending on your specific model and OS, thee are free programs on the web to get it for you.

It's possible that your rig is part of a set of office computers that all have the same license, and you need that key. In that case, you have a major problem. But Ferrari 500's are not really designed as office machines, so I doubt that will happen.

I sold the computer originally. I got it back when the hard drive failed this year and it was not enough pc for what she needed. You said the key was buried in the bios. On the original drive or now that it has been reloaded?

That's a tough question. If you are using the original installation disk, then the key is buried in the Bios. But the free program you need to find it will vary with your model and your operating system. You'll have to do a websearch for the right one. If you are using a different installation disk, I don' know, but I would try to use a free program anyway.
