Hi folks,

Hope someone can help me. My Apsire is about 2 1/2 years old now. Just recently for some reason, I keep losing my internet connection. I still show as being connected, but when I click on internet explorer, it comes up "page can not be displayed". I have tried unplugging my router, I have tried running system restore and yet nothing seems to help. Twice now though after running system restore I did get internet access back but I can't figure out how or why. I have seen threads here inregards to different anti virus software. I do believe mine came with McAfee but I changed to Norton 360. Is it possible my two anti virus programs are duking it out in the back ground? I can not see any McAfee software on my computer, but its like mold and I'm sure inbedded into some crevis of my hard drive. When I reboot, I get a script host message " Can't find script engine "VBScript" for script "C\OEM\Preload|utility\_NowIntoDT.vbs". and when I try to delete some unwanted programs such as Blackberry desktop I get "Error 2738. Could not access VBScript run timefor custom action". Both of these are related to Mcafee I belive. My ipad connects with no issues to the internet so I'm posistive its something inside the Aspire causing me the issue. I know there is programs out there that will remove McAfee entirely but without the ability to conect to the internet, I can not download them. I don't even undertsand why that in the last few weeks this even started doing this. I tried running Norton but it seems to not want to run, either because of the conflict with McAfee or possible a virus. Hope I didn't blab on to much, Cheers folks, hope someone out there can help, I'm a one finger typer and thats about the extent of my prowness on theses things lol.

I'm going to pick a few things out from your post that stand out to me and may or may not be important in resolving the issue for you.

    "...keep losing my internet connection."

You have attempted to rectify it with resetting the router, but other devices still connect to the router without an issue.

"...system restore...did get internet access back"

"reboot...get a script host message, "Can't find script engine "VBScript" for script "C\OEM\Preload|utility\_NowIntoDT.vbs"

"try to delete some unwanted programs such as Blackberry desktop..."

Internet connectivity may be affected by the antivirus suite you have installed, Norton 360, which also include a firewall.  We are unable to support or diagnose issues with Norton 360.

You appear to have attempted to "restore" the system, but I'm seeing a lot of conflicting information about things that should not be on a system that was restored to factory defaults, specifically "Blackberry desktop" and other issues that appear to be related to McAfee.

    1. My suggestion is to completely wipe the system with a factory recovery. Please review this article: http://community.acer.com/t5/Community-KB/Reloading-your-Acer-computer/ta-p/45793

    2. Complete the initial set up of the system and test internet connectivity.

    3. If you would like to remove software at that point, remove ONE piece at a time and continue to monitor your connectivity.
      For assistance with removing McAfee:
How to uninstall or reinstall supported McAfee products using the Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR)

I would refrain from installing Norton again, until you are certain that the internet connectivity issue is sorted out.

Hi Acer Tommy, thanks for the info. I think I will try to uninstall Norton first. I'm not sure if it is the cause or not. I installed Norton over a year ago and this is the first time that I have had these issues. I do believe My Aspire came with a trial version of McAfee when I bought it. If memory serves me, I recall having a silmilar issue after I first bought it which resulted in a tech at Acer telling me to do a system factory recovery. What he neglected to tell me though was that I needed the reboot CD which I had to purchase. Once I performed the factory reboot, I removed McAfee (or thought I did) and purchased Norton to which the system worked flawlessly since until about a month ago. I will try the uninstall first of Norton, then if all works out, I will be able to go onto the internet and download the McAfee removal tool and can try Norton again. I will post my results. A tech I work with does think that Norton's firewall might be blocking the interent seeing how I am showing good connection, just can't open internet explorer. If you or anyone else out there has anymore input, please share. Thanks again Tommy.
