Hi,

I am having fps drops on all games. i tried maximum performance power mode, optimal power, and none helps. it is laptop with 1060 gtx and cant keep 60 fps without dropping to 25 fps. something is wrong and I cant figure out what it is. i have the newest nvidia driver.]

it is a problem on all steam games and also on battle net games.

i so people online say that it can be power adapter but my power adapter shows that its always charging so not sure if it can be a cause.

i tried both maximum processor state 99 % and 100% .. doesn't effect it

here are my nvidia control panel settings:

Look Pauly12 this subject has been covered on this community many times and seeing that this laptop is 4 years old, I would recommend the following as fps drops is largely due to overheating and/or hardware damage due to heat:

    1. Disassemble the laptop and clean all its vents

    2. Check both fans if they are working 100%? Or I would replace them with new fans anyway

    3. Repaste and apply the top and most efficient paste for high temps of cpu/gpu which is a paste called Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut Liquid Metal that is designed for applications that require very high efficiency and will reduce cpu/gpu temps from 25°C to 30°C, but and be VERY CAREFUL on how you apply this paste, as and if liquid metal is applied too thickly on both cpu and gpu, the liquid paste can leak and destroy your laptops circuitries due to its metal composition and cause shortages of components and ruin your laptop, so follow the exact instructions of how to apply this paste carefully. Also and by recommending this paste, I take no responsibility if you apply this paste too thickly or incorrectly as that is the cause of many laptops and desktops mobos being ruined and damaged beyond repair!

Also and another heat reducing appication is to use the Intel specific undevolting software called Intel XTU (Intel Extreme Tuning Utility) and read this excellent guide at “How to Undervolt Your Laptop With Intel XTU”. As and if you want to go on that route then this software is helpful also but and remember, that modern CPUs, especially those in laptops, don’t use a static voltage. Instead, the voltage is adjusted as per the amount of load in the CPU. This is one of the reasons undervolting doesn’t get quite the results it used to, since the CPU is actually undervolting itself when idle. By adjusting the voltage offset, we change the minimum and maximum voltage range the CPU will use.

Try all the above as you have done all that a consumer can do software wise and the above steps are another way of improving your laptops hardware efficiency in handling and playing games, where temps are pushed to the laptops and its GTX-1060 gpu max hardware capabilities.

StevenGen if i aim for 60 fps .. should i limit fps to 60 fps? or should i put max framerate in nvidia panel to like 80? so perhaps it has more room to wiggle?

i cleaned the laptop, I applied the kryonaut thermal paste, I am undervolting the CPU with throttlestop to reduce the temperature.

the issue was not BCS of thermal throttling.

i suspect that when I have max framerate limit at 60fps, it drops sometimes to like 35-40 fps hmm
