It is best and cheapest for you to replace the defective sodimm with a kit of two 2GB DDR2 sodimms for a total of 4GB RAM such as those sold on NewEgg.

When you tap F2 on startup, do you see the BIOS menu with the RAM installed?

    OK.
    (1) Press and hold the power button till machine shuts off.
    (2) Unplug charger
    (3) Remover or disconnect battery.
    (4) Remove RAM module.
    (5) Then reconnect battery and plug charger back in
    (6) Then turn machine on and immediately tap F2 again

Do you see BIOS menu now?

The Extensa 5620 uses a Phoenix BIOS and the beep codes are supposed to be a sequence of (usually) four sets of beeps. Do you only get two? What leads you to think that's a memory error?

I recommend you get another stick of SODIMM to replace what seems to be the faulty stick.
If you are using XP or Vista X86 (32bit) then the system will only recognize 2.8 - 3GB of memory, only 64bit operating systems recognize the full 4GB.
