Dear Acer Community.

I've got a question in regards of installing an M.2 SSD

I've ran HWiNFO64 on the laptop and checked PCI Express Root Port #9.
The result was

PCI Express - Version 3.0
PCI Express - Maximum Link Width 2x

I've checked my local computer shop and they have the following SSD's available

980 PCIe®3.0 NVMe®SSD 1TB - Interface: PCIe® Gen 3.0 x4, NVMe® 1.4

970 EVO Plus NVMe® M.2 SSD 1TB - Interface: PCIe Gen 3.0 x 4, NVMe 1.3

980 PRO PCIe® 4.0 NVMe™ SSD 1TB - Interface: PCIe® Gen 4.0 x 4, NVMe® 1.3c

Since the results of HWiNFO64 shows that this laptop has "PCI Express - Version 3.0" am I right to assume that the 980 PRO with PCIe 4.0 is
not compatible but that the 980 PCIe®3.0 NVMe®SSD 1TB and the 970 EVO Plus NVMe® M.2 SSD 1TB are ?

    Hi,
Yes, it's better to go with a PCIe Gen 3 NVMe SSD, PCIe Gen 4 SSDs are backward compatible, so 980 Pro might work but it will run at PCIe Gen 3 speeds and you have to pay more for it, I think you will be fine with either of the other two.
